Please indicate teaching aspects in which the resident excelled:

As caring for this unique population was a new realm for us learners, Dr. Dermody
specifically excelled in connecting neonatal concepts to familiar ones. By doing this,
my co-student and I were able to quickly adapt and learn a significant amount of
new information by applying our knowledge to recognize similarities and differences
between the care of adults and neonates. Additionally, by developing a supportive
relationship with us, promoting active learning, and remaining enthusiastic, Dr.
Dermody facilitated an extremely motivating learning environment. Further, by
organizing various opportunities for us to have productive conversations regarding
our patients, Dr. Dermody enabled the advancement of our clinical application skills
within this population. During our discussions regarding different patient cases, Dr.
Dermody consistently demonstrated broad knowledge, answered our questions
clearly, and was able to challenge us by asking further questions. Lastly, throughout
this rotation, I was provided with valuable feedback, such as what possible patient
interventions are essential to focus on when presenting a patient case or being
supplied with abundant beneficial feedback to enhance our final presentation. Dr.
Dermody continued advice regarding areas of improvement and then allowing us to
challenge ourselves allowed me to undergo significant growth within this clinical
realm.

Please make recommendations as to how the resident can improve his/her

teaching:

The only recommendation I have for Dr. Dermody to improve her teaching
proficiencies is just to keep working on asking students further questions to gauge
our thought process and challenge us to participate in educational conversations.
Additionally, following these productive conversations, Dr. Dermody can focus on
continuing to advance her abilities to provide feedback regarding what interventions
were valuable and what potential areas of improvement exist.

Other comments about the resident’s teaching skills:

Overall, I was able to undergo a significant amount of professional and personal

development with the aid of Dr. Dermody’s continued knowledge, educational
questions and challenges, and valuable feedback.

Other comments about the resident’s teaching skills:

There were times where feedback was given with very tight turnarounds for getting
projects edited, which led to a couple of late nights for project edits. However, I
know as a resident, Dr. Dermody is busy with a lot of other things and it was still
doable within the time frame.
