RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The molar mass of volatile liquid was calculated using the dry flask mass, boiling
water temperature in Kelvin, the mass of vapor, flask volume, and atmospheric
pressure variables. The ideal gas law was used to compute the substance's molar
mass, moles of vapor, and mass of vapor. For this experiment, two trials were
performed, and the experimenters were able to use the ideal gas law to get results
of 0.005 for both trials. Table 1 shows the values obtained computing for the molar
mass using ideal gas law.

The van der Waals equation is utilized to determine the moles of vapor instead of
the previously used ideal gas law. a = 15.61 atm-L2/mol2 and b = 0.11109 L/mol
were the constant values for van der Waals. The results found while computing the
molar using the van der Waals equation are displayed in Table 2.
