Partnership request to establish a new municipal partnership between Douala and the
district Berlin Mitte

Dear Mayor of Douala Dr. Mbassa Ndine,

I hope this message finds you very well. I, as the mayor of the borough of Berlin Mitte, would
appreciate establishing a new partnership with the city of Douala, which is why we are ad-
dressing this request to you.

In November last year, a public place in our district was renamed Manga Bell Square. King
Jean-Yves Eboumbou Douala Bell came to the official renaming ceremony. In an exchange
with him, the wish arose to build up a long-term international partnership between Douala
and Berlin Mitte based on the symbolic act of renaming the street.

In this municipal partnership, we would like to exchange views and experiences on chal-
lenges that move both municipalities, Douala and Berlin Mitte, to learn from each other
within the context of a professional exchange and a transfer of knowledge, the implementa-
tion of projects as well as the establishing of school partnerships.

Isee numerous thematic points of contact in the partnership work: Reappraisal of colonial
history, cultural work, projects in children's, youth and adult education, projects in the field of
sustainable cities and communities.

Furthermore we have already been accepted for a concrete project that gives the oppor-
tunity to work with a municipality in the global south to implement the 2030 Agenda. This
sustainability partnership project includes reciprocal dispatches, is funded by the German
federal ministry for economic cooperation and development, and will already start in April
2023. We would be very happy to use this project as a first impulse for a long-term coopera-
tion between Douala and Berlin Mitte.

However, I would like to emphasize that it is important to us to decide on contents and ob-
jectives of the partnership as well as to plan details in close exchange with you.

I would be very pleased if our enquiry meets with a positive response from you. In this case,
we suggest that we arrange a digital meeting in which we can get to know each other and
clarify open questions.
