GROUP ASSIGNMENT (60% of the weightage):

Evaluation of the HR function in organization X. For the assignment kindly follow the
following format:

The case study on “HR function in organization X” is meant to develop an over all
understanding of the organization and its HR function. Each of the group is expected to
study the HR function in detail and bring about a study report with appropriate data
including the formats of the systems being practiced. The structure of the report is given
below:

1. Profile of the organizations:


1.1. History of the organization, Management and Governance mechanism, people,
product and services, market performance etc.

1.2. Vision and mission: Capture the organizational vision and mission verbatim. How is
the vision and mission drawn? Examine the vision and mission document if available,
How the vision is continuously shared? Does the CEO and the top management own up
the vision. What are the mechanisms by which the mission is continuously achieved?

1.3. Organizational strategy: Capturing the business intent and positioning in the market,
What the organization want to do during the coming year, two years from now, five years
from now etc. Examine closely the annual report of past three years and understand the
organization in relation to its business in the market- Revenue, profit, and major
competitors.

1.4. Organizational structure: Closely examine the organizational structure, does it


facilitate individual development, group development, organizational development, and
business facilitation? Study in detail the HR structure and structuring of HR function, Is
the HR adequately and sufficiently positioned in the organizational structure?

1.5. Management systems: List down all the management systems. Do they facilitate
individual development, group development, organizational development, and business
facilitation?

1.6. Management styles: How is the top management is being experienced by others?
What is the predominant style of the top management- benevolent, critical or
developmental? Does the style facilitate individual, group and organizational
development?

1.7. Organizational values: Enlist the values of the organization, Detail the basis and
evidence of its practices, how does the values build the personality of the organization?
Does it build the brand value of employees (EVP), product/s or services? Short
case/incident may be captured to demonstrate the non-compromising stand and
championing initiatives by the organization.
2. HRM systems: Detail the HR systems in the organization with reference to the broad
HR system framework outlined below. Make sure to capture all the HR systems and
practices of the organization with details. The same is not elaborated in the following
sections (2.1-2.7) since the same is discussed in the class in detail. However, students
are expected to give a detailed account of the same as this is the major body of the
report.

2.1. Career System- How does the organization attracts and retails human resources?
2.2. Work System- How does the organization utilizes human resources?
2.3. Development System-How does the organization develop its human resources?
2.4. Self-renewal System- How the organization rejuvenises itself through HR?
2.5. Culture System- How does the organization creates the learning environment?
2.6. IR-Major IR activities if applicable
2.7. ER Auditing-Major ER activities if Union does not exist in the organization.

3. HR Department and competency: This section should give a detailed account of


competency interventions in the organization. A good report will give overall
competency levels of the HR staff in the HRM function.
3.1. HR personnel and their professional profiles including educational qualifications
and experience in the HR function.
3.2. Competency framework of the organization
3.3. Competency assessment or mapping details and availability of the same in the HR
personnel.
3.4. Is the HR Competency based HR function? Provide evidence for your claim.
3.5. What is the competency development or competency acquisition initiatives and
plans?

4. HR culture in the organization:


4.1 Enlisting the unique cultural practices in the organization. This can be written in the
form of a story or anecdotes.
4.2 What are the espoused values of the organization which is often available in the
intranet of the organization and its major promotion materials?
4.3 Evidence of the practice of the espoused values at various levels? Kindly narrate a
few incidents to support your claim.
4.4 What is the overall HR Climate of the organization? How does the organization
create a learning climate within the organization?

5. Overall Assessment
5.1. Overall strengths
5.2. Overall, area for improvement
5.3. Final recommendations

6. Conclusion: What are the learnings you have acquired by studying and making this
report?
The case study report should be around 3000 words, printed on A4 paper in single space
submitted in soft copy. Enclosures in the document are not counted for word count. The
final date for submission is on February 28, 2023. CR is expected to send the four or five
member groups to Adline@xlri.ac.in. Final submission also needs to be submitted to her.
Kindly make sure to run it past Turnitin and similarity of the document should not be
more than at 10%. The certificate of the same must be part of the project document on the
last page.
