FAMILY INTERVIEW 2

1. How would you handle a specific problem such as: bedtime? I read or tell fairy tales before bed, I
give a glass of milk, or do massage and wish them sweet dreams
2. How would you handle a meal struggle? I can make animal shapes or smiling face from food for
younger children. I would tell elder children about usefulness of food.
3. How would you handle jealousy? Siblings are often jealous. I would talk to kids. I would try to keep
busy with something, distract attention.
4. How do you discipline children? I love discipline but I use gentle discipline. I never shout at children ,
I am never angry with them. I talk to them. I explain things to them.
5. How were you disciplined as a child? My family was talking to me, they never hit me, they were a
good example for me[ were a role model for me]
6. 4. What do you think your day will be like with the children? - I think I will be preparing their meals,
feeding them, doing activities like drawing pictures, dancing, singing, going to the park, riding bike,
helping their homework, bathing them, putting them down to sleep
7. Have you had any special childcare training? Yes (if you are a teacher you can say I took pedagogical
formation so I know about child psychology, development) // No but I often search or read about child
development or child psychology in the Internet.
8. What other languages would you like to learn? I always wanted to learn …// I wish I could learn …
one day.
9. Do you like to travel? What other countries would you like to travel to? My dream is to go…// I want
to visit…
10. Would you be willing to try camping , hiking ,trekking and spending time in the mountains? Yes, I
often go for it. // Yes, I would like to do it.
11. What do you like to cook? What can you cook best? I am good at cakes and I can do it with kids , I am
sure they will enjoy it./// I can cook delicious meals. Have tried Turkish meals before? I can cook them
for you.
12. Have you ever taken care of two children under the age of 3 by yourself? Do you feel comfortable
doing this? No/ Yes , I would be comfortable.
13. What would you do if kids just kept crying and parents were not at home? What would you do if
we were at home and this happened? Firstly I try to understand the reason of crying . Then try to keep
busy with something, distract attention.
14. If children are sleeping, and you are working, what do you plan on doing? I will tidy children’s
room, or do children’s laundry or prepare meals or snacks for children.
15. Would you help with housework if you are not working? Sure , I can help if I am home.
16. Where do you want to travel in the United States? I would like to visit…
17. What would you do with kids on a rainy day? a sunny day? I know a lot of indoor and outdoor
games. I can do them according their schedule or mood.
18. What indoor or outdoor activities do you know? Ex: Outdoor -car washing, leaf collection , hide-and-
seek, …Indoor- crafts, cooking, puppet show…
19. What type of arts and crafts do you do with children ? We can do painting, decorations, cut outs,
puppets.
20. When you go out with friends, do you drink alcohol? Would you be okay if we did not want you to
drink alcohol while you live with us? I do not drink alcohol. ( I drink alcohol only on special days)
21. What do you think you would be interested in learning at course ? I would like to go to English
course.
22. If you were not happy, or something was wrong, would you try to tell us what is wrong or what is
going on? Yes , I would talk to you.
23. If children hit you with something (their hand, a toy, etc.), what would you do? I speak seriously and
tell that this behavior is not good, tell it was ‘painful’. But I will not talk angrily. Then ask him not to do
that again.
24. Would you tell us if kids did something wrong if we were not around? Yes , of course I must tell
parents but not for complaining, I will tell because I want to solve a problem.
25. Have you ever hit children to tell them "No"? I never hit kids
26. What do you see your role being in your host family? I see my role as a member of the family. I
would like to be sister to my host children. I know how to follow rules, respect routines.
27. How do you feel about living with a family that is Jewish or Christian ? I am an open-mined person.
I will be happy to see different people, religions and life styles. This is of the reasons I am joining this
program.
28. Do you think you'll be able to watch 3 and 5 year old infants at the same time? Yes, I think I can. I
can do many activities with them at the same time.
29. How do you feel about living with an American family and following their rules? I feel very
comfortable. in my family we also have rules.
30. Do you have a curfew now? [Curfew- not to come late, eve belli bir saaten önce gelme kuralı, saati aile
belirler] I do not have a curfew but I am adult, I can control myself, I can follow schedule. If I work
next day I come home early.
31. What is your biggest concern about being an Au Pair? I do not have any concern now.
32. Are you a tidy or messy person? I am a tidy and clean person. I going to be a good example to kids.
33. What kind of housework, duties do you have at home? I cook meals , tidy the house, do ironing…
34. Why should we choose you as our Au Pair? Because I love children. I have some childcare experience .
I am responsible, patient, reliable, easygoing, open-minded. I believe I can be like a sister to my host
children.
35. Why would you like to choose us as your host family? I receive good energy from your family. I loved
your kids ( baby) so much. I think we will have a good year together.
