Computer-Aided Design Activity 1

NOTE:
 all MEASUREMENTS must be exact
 EXPLORE and PRACTICE tools and shortcuts in CAD
 You can use GUIDELINES for exact measurements in CAD

INSTRUCTIONS:
 Choose at least 1 illustration in Figure 1.1
 Choose at least 2 illustrations in Figure 1.2
 You can do more illustrations if you want to explore and experiment with the tools in CAD

TASK:

For guidelines, you can check your LMS Dashboard. Go to our previous course, Engineering Drawing
& Plans (1st Sem 2021), or simply copy and paste the links provided under the figures.

“MEASUREMENT OF THE SQUARE IS 7 x 7 CM”

PROCEDURE:
1. Start/Open CAD, any versions will do.

To create a new drawing, you can either click the New option or the (+) button as shown in the image
below
Using your keyboard type UNITS to open a command and press Enter

Change the following:

Precision: 0.0000 > 0.00
Insertion Scale: Millimeters > Centimeters
Then press OK

2. Using the Rectangle Tool located at the ribbon panel (Upper Left) or simply type REC or
RECTANGLE command.
To put the exact measurement, DRAG and HOLD the Rectangle shape in the drawing area, and then
using the keyboard press and hold Shift and press @ and release.
Type the number “7” and to get to the other side measurement press the Tab key on the keyboard
and type the number “7.” If it’s too small on the drawing area just zoom in to see the shape.
Your drawing area should look like this;

and your square should look like this with 7 x 7 cm dimension.

(Dimensions Text is optional, I just put it to check if the square is 7 x 7 cm)

Copy the square and paste it to make 3 squares for your task using the copy command and press
Enter once you’re done making the squares.
Your drawing area should look like this:

If you want to copy your square with the same distance from each other while pressing the copy command type the distance you want.
Make sure it’s not too far nor too near to the other square for a more flexible area while you’re making your illustrations

(The measurement I used in the photo above is 10, > 0°)

After you picked the illustrations you want which were given in Figures 1.1, and 1.2. Proceed with the
drawing.

“Make sure to explore and practice the commands and shortcuts to make it
easy and less time-consuming for the next upcoming activities.”

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

Enable the Endpoint, Midpoint, Center, and other options that will help you in creating your
illustrations. This option is located in the lower right.

Also, enable these two options for reference points to put ease in your illustrations

To make the shapes such as squares and rectangles turn into separate lines. Use the explode tool
command.

Select the shape you want, then after that press enter and it will be separated.
Using the trim command, you can cut the excess lines in a shape.

Using the mirror command, make sure that you enable the midpoint and corners option as I’ve said
before. Finding its midpoint and endpoint, will save you so much time in making your illustration.

For exact measurements, you can simply type the measurement in cm to get the exact size, length,
area, height, and distance from other shapes.

There are tons of commands and tools in the CAD, please have time to explore and be flexible in
utilizing it.
That would be all. If there’s any question regarding what I’ve made. Feel free to ask in the GC. :)))
