Notable
developments of this century include Hans Christian Orsted, who discovered
in 1820 that an electric current produces a magnetic field that deflects
compass needles; William Sturgeon, who invented the electromagnet in
1825; Includes research by Joseph Henry and Edward Davey. Electrical
relays in 1835, by Georg Ohm, who quantified the relationship between
current and potential difference in a conductor in 1827,[3] Michael Faraday
(discoverer of electromagnetic induction in 1831), and James Clerk Maxwell.
In 1873, he published a unified theory of electricity and magnetism in his
paper "Electricity and Magnetism" [4].
