The video report which is presented by Engr. Alpino regarding “Groundwater Contaminants”
shows a great understanding of the concepts which was not only well-presented but also largely
detailed. Engr. Alpino gave a thorough classifications of groundwater contaminants and I have learned
every particular of it, from natural sources, septic system, sewage and waste water, landfills and many
more. To relate the vlog report here in our local area, these ground contaminants is dangerously
present. Examples are those decaying dead animals buried directly below the ground. Another is the
presence of household’s septic tanks not following standards on disposal of waste right in to the ground.
Also, the direct disposal of waste waters to the open water channels without undergoing proper
treatments. As Engineers, we should consider in every project that we are involved with, the prevention
or if it’s inevitable, creation of proper ways in treating these contaminants before it enters our
waterways that would somehow infiltrate our groundwater. Land use plans and regulations should be
ensured to protect important water supply aquifers. Additionally, I would just like to emphasize the
significance of Laws and Regulations to counter or alleviate groundwater pollution.
