Title: Exploring LAN Cable Types: Coaxial Cable, Twisted Pair, and Fiber Optic Cable

Objective: To explore different types of LAN cables, their construction, and their uses.

Materials:

 Coaxial Cable
 Twisted Pair Cable
 Fiber Optic Cable
 Internet access
 Paper and pencil for note-taking

Instructions:

1. Introduce the three types of LAN cables to the class: coaxial cable, twisted pair cable,
and fiber optic cable. (Already discuss last meeting.)
2. Conduct research on each type of cable, using the internet or other available resources.
They should pay attention to the construction, advantages, and disadvantages of each
cable type.
3. Create a chart with three columns, one for each cable type, and record the information
they have gathered in each column. The chart should include the maximum data transfer
speed, maximum cable length, common uses, and any other relevant information.
4. After completing the chart, students will compare and contrast the three cable types,
noting any similarities and differences.
5. write a short paragraph describing the advantages and disadvantages of each cable type
and when it might be best to use each one.
6. Discuss the different cable types and their uses, highlighting any notable points or
interesting observations.
7. Conclude the activity by asking the students to reflect on what they have learned and
how they might apply this knowledge in the future.
8. This is a by-group activity with 5 members.

Assessment: The students' understanding of the different LAN cable types will be assessed
through their participation in the activity and their ability to complete the chart accurately and
thoroughly. Additionally, their written paragraphs will be evaluated for clarity and
completeness.

Conclusion: By the end of this activity, students will have a better understanding of the different
types of LAN cables, their construction, advantages, and disadvantages. They will have learned
when it is best to use each cable type and how to compare and contrast the different types. This
knowledge will be useful for future networking projects and technology-related endeavors.
Example Chart:

Cable Maximum Data Maximum Cable

Type Transfer Speed Length Common Uses

Coaxial Up to 10 Gbps Up to 500 meters Cable TV, broadband internet, CCTV

Twisted
Pair Up to 10 Gbps Up to 100 meters Ethernet networks, telephone systems

Fiber Long-distance telecommunications, high-speed

Optic Up to 100 Gbps Up to 40 km internet, data centers

This chart provides a clear overview of each cable type's maximum data transfer speed,
maximum cable length, and common uses. It can be useful for comparing the characteristics of
each cable type and deciding which one might be best for a given situation.
