Is there a difference between low-income and high-income student GPAs

Hypothesis

● Part 1: Setting up your observed and expected tables
● Part 2: Calculating your Chi-Squared
● Summarize your results in writing here. (single paragraph)
The results that I got where was that the Chi-squared was not high enoufhg to reject
the null hypothesis because the Chi squared was 6.373 and the critical value was
12.592. I did however learn that the majority of students in this survey where
Middle-Class.
● Include your observed and expected tables
Observed 2.4 and below 2.5 - 2.9 3.0 - 3.4 3.5 and above total
Lower-Class 1 3 2 8 14
Middle-Class 4 13 20 35 72
Upper-Class 0 0 1 8 9
total 5 16 23 51 95

Expected 2.4 and below 2.5 - 2.9 3.0 - 3.4 3.5 and above total
Lower-Class 0.7368421053 2.357894737 3.389473684 7.515789474 14

total 5 16 23 51 95

Conclusion/Discussion
● Restate your research question
Is there a difference between low-income and high-income student GPAs.
● State your degree of freedom and critical value
My degree of freedom was 6 and my critical value was 12.592.
● State whether there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (Is your
chi-squared larger than your critical value?)
No because my chi-squared was only 6.373 witch is less than 12.592.
● Make a final conclusion of your results
Because the Chi-squared was lowver tham my critical value family income has no affect on
GPAs.
