Group 3 - Performance Task in Science (Roleplaying)

Script:

 Introduction: Good Morning/Afternoon Ma’am Panganiban,

Classmates, We are the Group 3 and for today we’re going to roleplay
the scientist who discovered and help developed the Electromagnetic
Wave Theory.
In times where modern science and technologies aren’t a thing,
these scientists will show you how accidents and simple discoveries
can change the concepts of Science in one glimpse forever.

 Narrator: A Danish physicist and chemist ‘Hans Christian Oersted’,

became a professor at the University of Copenhagen in 1806 where
his first physical researches dealt with electric currents and acoustics.
During an evening class in April of 1820, he was setting up materials
for his lecture.

 Oersted: Hello Class, Good Evening, today we are going to study

some basic electric currents and acoustics. So I have here a voltaic
pile (battery), and a copper wire.

 Narrator: Oersted happen to place his compass near the battery and
the connected copper wire and was startled to notice that the compass
needle moved.

 Oersted: Goodness Gracious!!, A wire carrying an electric current

deviates a magnetized needle from its position. Magnificent!!, the
agreement of this law with nature will be better seen by the repetition
of experiments than by a long explanation. That gentlemen, was the
birth of the modern telegraph.

 Narrator: Oersted was intrigued, the phenomenon he discovered was

rapidly recognized and inspired the development of the
Electromagnetic Wave Theory.

 Narrator: While Oersted discovery spreads, another scientist has

became apart of the development of the Electromagnetic Wave
Theory his name is André-Marie Ampére, he made the revolutionary
discovery that a wire carrying electric current can attract or repel
another wire next to it that’s also carrying electric current.

 Ampére: The future science of government should be called

‘la cybernétique’. Believe in God, in His providence, in a
future life, in the recompense of the good; in the punishment
of the wicked; in the sublimity and truth of the doctrines of
Christ, in a revelation of this doctrine by a special divine
inspiration for the salvation of the human race.

 Narrator: This scientist is probably best known for his

discovery of electromagnetic induction. His name is Michael
Faraday and his discovery are the changing magnetic and
electric fields are perpendicular to each other and to their
direction of propagation.

 Faraday: Nothing is too wonderful to be true, if it be

consistent with the laws of nature. But still try, for who know
what is possible?, Just remember “ Lectures which really
teach will never be popular ; Lectures which are popular will
never really teach”.

 Narrator: Another scientist who helped develop the

Electromagnetic Wave Theory and also supports Faraday is
James Clerk Maxwell. He is a English who developed a
scientific theory to better explain electromagnetic waves

 Maxwell: Faraday is, and must always remain, the father of

that enlarged science of electromagnetism. Thoroughly
conscious, ignorance is the prelude to every real advance in
Science.

 Narrator: Heinrich Hertz, a German physicist who applied

Maxwell’s theories to the production and reception of radio
waves. The hertz, the SI unit of frequency, is named after
him.

 Hertz: I do not think that the radio waves I have discovered

will have any practical application. One cannot escape the
feeling that these mathematical formulas have an
independent existence and an intelligence of their own , that
they are wiser than we are, wiser even than their discoveries.
