TITLE: Relationship of Parental Involvement and the Academic Performance of

Junior High School Students during the Modular Distance Learning

RATIONALE

The global pandemic altered the norms in the life of all the people in world. This

caused not only health crisis but also, educational crisis (Algrehn, et.al., 2022). The

schools were forced to close to ensure the safety of the students and teachers

against the threat of the virus. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and

Cultural Organization (UNESCO) argued that there had been 12 billion children who

were deprived of their right to education and their development due to the shut down

of the schools brought about by the pandemic. Hence, to mitigate the educational

losses of the children, the limelight in the teaching and learning process turned into

the parents of the learners, following the shift of the teaching and learning process to

online and modular distance learning, from the normal face-to-face classroom

teaching.

Parental Involvement have positive effects on the academic performance of

Junior High School during the modular distance learning since parents are

considered the More Knowledgeable Other (MKO) of their children at home.

RESEARCH GAPS

 There is a lack of research on the relationship of parental involvement to the

academic performance of students during the modular distance learning in the

time of the pandemic. Further, this is the first and only research about the said

topic in our District and in the Division of Samar.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This research is highly quantitative.

This study will utilize a correlational study. In correlational research, variables

are considered without being controlled or manipulated by the researchers. In

correlation, two (or more) variables are related by the strength and/or direction of

their relationship. Correlations can take either a positive or a negative course.

Researchers define parental involvement as the degree to which parents supported

their children's education.

Research Locale and Participants

The study will be conducted in Quintin Quijano Sr. Agricultural School

(QQSAS) with School ID No. 303640 situated at Sitio Kanyaksaw, Brgy. Mambog,

Pinabacdao, Samar. This one of the few technical vocational schools in the Region

with approximately 1,400 students for the school year 2020-2021.

The focus in this study are the parents where the primary data shall be taken

from. Particularly, this study will involve 240 parents of Junior High School students

of Quintin Quijano Sr. Agricultural School only, for the school year 2020-2021. The

study will utilize extreme case sampling, student-respondents will just be chosen per

class based on their academic ranking – top 10 students and bottom 10 students.
Data for the class ranking will be taken from the class advisers per sections and year

levels.

Statistical Treatment

To process the data that the study will use, the research will conduct descriptive

analysis (mean, median, and mode) to analyze the socio-demographics of the parents and

get the general information on the data from the report cards of the participating students.

TITLE: Women on Top: The Effectiveness of Female Leadership in the Schools

of Pinabacdao I District

RATIONALE

Evidence increasingly suggests a link between good female school leaders and positive

learning outcomes, yet women remain severely underrepresented in school leadership. The

underrepresentation of women in school leadership is a challenge in many contexts. Globally

nearly seven in ten primary and five in ten secondary school teachers are female – but

women remain underrepresented in school leadership (Bergmann et al. 2022).

Although the best leadership traits are mostly sought in men, early analysis and research

from UNICEF Innocenti and other organizations shows that women-led schools may perform

better than men-led schools (Brossard,et.al., 2022). In our locality, schools are dominated by

woman-leadership, however, evaluation of their female leadership performance has never

been proven effective or otherwise ever since. So, the difference between men-lead schools

and women-lead schools have never been challenged and tested.

Female in general are nurturing, warmth, supportive, and empathetic. Hence,

Leadership in the Schools of Pinabacdao I District is effective as it posits women’s

sharp interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

RESEARCH GAPS

 The is a lack of research conducted on the female leadership of schools in the

locality of Pinabacdao and this is among the few in Samar Division.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The study will utilize a qualitative research design which will center on

unravelling the effectiveness of Women Leadership in the schools of Pinabacdao I

district. Interviews, and survey questionnaires shall be used in the data collection.

Research Locale and Participants

The study will be conducted in Pinabacdao I District, municipality of

Pinabacdao, Mambog, Pinabacdao Samar. Pinabacdao I District is one of the 35

districts of Samar Division with 11 schools consisted of 2 secondary and 9

elementary schools.
The participants of the study are limited to the female school heads in

Pinabacdao I district who serves or leads a school at present.

Data Analysis

The study will use Descriptive Statistical analysis (mean, mode) to analyze the

data collected from the interview and survey questionnaires.

TITLE: The Perception of School Heads on School Technology Leadership in

Pinabacdao I District

RATIONALE

John Dewey stated, “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our

children of tomorrow.” School leaders must embrace this philosophy and engage in

activities which prepare them to lead 21st century schools. Increasingly, this involves

developing an understanding that technology in the K-12 classroom is evolving from

adapting lessons that highlight a technology to pervasive use of interactive and

handheld devices (LaFrance, n.d.).

The fast-paced changing educational environment forces not only the teachers to

evolve unto becoming tech-savvy to cater the best and quality education to the

learners, but moreso, the education leaders/heads have to take the challenge in

learning and growing together with technology to better manage and efficiently serve

the school and its community.

However, growing with technology and accomplishing demanding tasks of school

leaders today with it are great challenges that school heads face, especially those

who have to learn everything from square one. Hence, knowing the perception of

School Head on School Technology Leadership in Pinabacdao I District will shape

future projects and policies of the District to help every school head win the

challenge in overcoming such perplexity.

School technology leadership have positive impacts on school management of

school heads provided with interest and willingness of the school heads to learn and

take on the challenging route of Technology Leadership.
