1.1 Introduction

The analytical study aims to investigate the working capital management


practices of Tata Steel Ltd, a prominent company in the steel industry. Working
capital management plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of a
business by maintaining an optimal balance between current assets and current
liabilities. This study utilizes ratio analysis to assess the efficiency, liquidity,
and financial health of Tata Steel Ltd's working capital.
Tata Steel Ltd, a renowned global steel manufacturer, operates in a highly
capital-intensive industry, where effective working capital management is
essential for sustained profitability and growth. The study focuses on analyzing
various financial ratios that provide insights into the company's working capital
management strategies and their impact on its overall financial performance.
Ratio analysis is a powerful tool that allows for the interpretation and
comparison of financial data, providing meaningful metrics to evaluate a
company's liquidity, operational efficiency, and financial stability. By
examining key ratios such as current ratio, quick ratio, inventory turnover ratio,
receivables turnover ratio, and payables turnover ratio, the study seeks to gain a
comprehensive understanding of Tata Steel Ltd's working capital management
practices.
The study also considers the industry benchmarks and compares the
company's performance against its peers. This comparative analysis helps
identify areas of strength and areas that require improvement, enabling Tata
