The Little Prince, fable and a modern classic by Antoine de Saint-
Exupéry was published with his own illustrations in French as Le Petit Prince in 1943. The simple tale tells the story of a child, the little prince, who travels the universe gaining wisdom. “Once upon a time, there was a little prince who lived on a planet that was barely larger than he, and who needed a friend.” That’s how Antoine de Saint-Exupéry would have liked to begin his story of the Little Prince. To those who understand life, he says, that sort of a beginning would have rung true than any other. This book explores the idea of how grown ups are drained out on their imagination, in contrast, to children who are open minded enough to explore the world around them and the one within them. The author has filled this book with a number of illustrations, like: The book describes the journey of The Little Prince and what he learns from the characters: The Aviator (narrator), The Rose, The King of Asteroid B-325, The Vain Man of Asteroid B-326, The Drunkard of Asteroid B-327, The Businessman of Asteroid-328, The Street Lamp Lighter of Asteroid B-329, The Geographer of Asteroid B-330, The Snake and The Fox. The main theme of the fable is expressed in the secret that the fox tells the little prince: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eyes.” This book contain life lessons that are timeless, although it was written as a part of children literature, it however helps your adult self to resonate with it. There are times when the author leaves you utterly speechless, it makes one truly uncomfortable to be able to think and act like an adult, in moments like: “Grown-ups are very fond of numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask you the kind of questions that should be asked, such as: “What kind of voice does he have?” “What are his favourite games?” “Does he collect butterflies?” Instead they ask: “How old is he? How much money does his father earn?” They really do imagine this is the best way to discover what sort of person he is!” How old is the Little Prince? We never know. We know he has hair of gold. That his laugh is like the sparkle of the stars. That he loves a rose. That he tamed a wise fox and made him his friend. And at the end of the day, isn’t that all that really matters?
