II. Project Summary

Project MATHUTOrials is an innovative project that will improve students’
mastery of the prerequisite competencies needed to the present competencies since
Mathematics lessons are mostly interconnected with each other. It is difficult for the
learner to understand a certain lesson in Math if the basics are not mastered. The
teacher together with the rest of the Mathematics teacher will identify basic lessons
that are essential and prerequisite to most lessons in the higher grades through a
LAC session. The teacher will distribute a form to all the students who are interested
to join the classes who has gadgets to use and internet access. The teacher will create
a Facebook group chat (GC) to all the learners who were willing to join. The students
will be instructed to download the Google meet application on their preferred
gadget to use. Class schedule and materials needed in the class will be announced 2
to 3 days before the class and the link for every class will be posted in the GC the
day before the class itself for the students to be prepared with their materials,
gadgets and internet connection. The teacher will prepare power point presentations
and activities to use during classes based on the list of prerequisite lessons to most
lessons in higher grades. During the discussions, the students will be encouraged to
ask questions to be responded reel time by the teacher. There will also be activities at
the end of the lessons that students must answer and send to the teacher’s
messenger for checking and for the teacher to monitor the transfer of learnings
through this method. The slides will also be uploaded to the GC for the other
students who were not able to join for some personal reasons. MATHUTOrials
Project will be implemented by the proponent as the lead implementer from

2
September 2021 to May 2022. The estimated cost of the project is ₱5,000.00 to be
outsourced from possible partners and sponsors,.

III. Project Background

The K-12 Conceptual Framework states that every learner who completes the
K to 12 basic education program will have been nurtured and developed to become a
Filipino with 21st century skills. The learners must be equipped with the following
21st century skills such as information, media and technology skills. The learner must
also be equipped with the 5C’s of the 21st century such as communication and with
emphasis on critical thinking skills. The country was hit by the COVID pandemic
and it resulted to temporarily shutting down of face to face classes. Fortunately, the
Department of Education did not stop from giving quality education for all the
Filipino learners. The Lirio M. Escaño National High School implemented the
modular printed mode of delivery for the school year 2020-2022. However, the
Mathematics teachers noticed that students cannot show solutions on how they were
able to come up the answer in a certain problem given to them through modules.
Also to point out that in Mathematics, we do implement the ladderized approach in
which lessons are interconnected to each other. In this regard, to bridge the gap of
learning caused by modular delivery, the innovator together with some mathematics
teacher will conduct online tutorials on least mastered competencies in the previous
level that are prerequisite to the competencies in the present level of the learner. This
innovative project will address the gap of learning and master prerequisite
competencies needed to the present lessons. This project aims to improve the
performance of the learners to 80% mastery of the competency through the use of
online group tutorials and sent slides presentation used in the discussions. This
project adheres to the departments’ vision that students learn in a child-friendly and
motivating environment; teachers facilitate learning and constantly nurture every
learner. Administrators and staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling
and supportive environment for effective learning to happen. Family, community,
and other stakeholders are actively engaged and share responsibility for developing
life-long learners.
