Actually, when I hear classical music I immediately think of Western Music and songs of

Beethoven and Chopin. But it can also be songs that are classic and … as it says here in our
presentation, classical music depicts love. So as I learn about it, in particular, classical music
takes a mysterious path through our senses, what I mean is classical music often makes us feel
strong emotional reactions.Sometimes, we even feel tearful eh. Anyways, if we observe,
classical music composed here in the Philippines is different from classical music in other
countries. Filipino classical music evolved from the European art music tradition and its literature
representing roughly four historical style periods, the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and
Post-romantic eras. So, Filipino classical music developed po according to social and artistic
boundaries na nakuha and reformulated through the years from the western musical culture and
a Filipino self-identity. That’s why you can see, we have our own style of classical music. We
have our examples here which are Oh Ilaw Composed by Ruben Tagalog, Hatinggabi by
Antonio Molina, and Nasaan Ka Irog composed by Nicanor Abelardo.

On the other hand, Opera is a form of theater that includes scenery, props, and costumes.
Sometimes we see what an opera performance look like in televisions po sa mga palabas, bcos
here in Pinas, actually here in our province there’s no opera to watch. The only difference of
opera from others is, the actors are trained singers who sing their lines instead of speaking
them. It is like telling a story but pakanta. This performance is often accompanied by an
orchestra. In other words, Opera is a form of theater in which music is a fundamental
component and dramatic roles are taken by singers. We have here some known opera
performances like Miss Saigon which is known t9 star our very own Filipina Singer miss Lea
Salonga, We also have other examples here like Chicago, Les Miserables which is also known
to some opera enthusiasts, and New York.

Moving on, in this next slide we will discuss or we will learn what a composer is. So, a composer
is someone who writes music professionally. Or someone who composes music for a living.
Actually, when we play music or when we sing a song, we often think of the singer but not the
composer of the song. Just like this list right here, as you can see, maybe some of us know
these songs but we don’t know who wrote them. We often sing these songs in karaoke or
competitions but we only know the singer. So we can say that composers are not always
appreciated ano po. We have some of the many famous songs in our history such as Para
Sayo, and Kailangan Kita which is a favorite of my parents.

So, I think this is where our presentation ends. That is all that we need to discuss, so thank you
po for listening and we hope that you learned and enjoyed our presentation. Our wish is that you
did not only listen to this presentation but also gained insights about our topic, Again, I am Mr.
Romel Mayuga, and thank you po.
