Assessment Task

Open Ended Investigation (OEI) involving students to work as a group to investigate how the
fuselage length of an O-wing will affect its flight performance (distance of flight)

This will include designing and carrying out the investigation, writing and submitting a group
scientific report on their group’s investigation.

You will be given 5 lessons in total to complete this task.

The due date for hand-in of the report is Thursday, Day 9, 23 March 2023 by 3:10pm.

Instructions
● Read all the information provided and follow instructions.
● Undertake research following the template provided (NOT HANDED IN)
● Design and carry out the investigation.
● Write a scientific report

How to do the Task

Students will be allocated into a group of 3 students.
1
Each student is required to contribute their share of work for the benefit of the entire group.
Each student’s contribution to the group work as determined by your teacher and team mates is
2
important. If you do not make satisfactory contributions, your mark will be reduced by up to 20%.

Complete a trial experiment in class called Part A -The effect of wing size on the distance of flight
3
of O-wing
Design, and then undertake the investigation.
4
Complete the assessment investigation “how the fuselage length of an O-wing will affect its
5 flight performance (distance of flight)”

Outcomes Assessed
A student:
SC4-4WS identifies questions and problems that can be tested or researched and makes
predictions based on scientific knowledge
SC4-5WS collaboratively and individually produces a plan to investigate questions and problems

SC4-6WS follows a sequence of instructions to safely undertake a range of investigation types,

collaboratively and individually
SC4-7WS processes and analyses data from a first-hand investigation and secondary sources to
identify trends, patterns and relationships, and draw conclusions

SC4-9WS presents science ideas, findings and information to a given audience using appropriate
scientific language, text types and representations
