LESSON 3 LANGUAGE; IMAGERY
WHAT IS IMAGE AND IMAGERY?
Image- the representation of an experience or object perceived through
the senses, sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing.
Imagery- the use of vivid or figurative language to represent objects,
actions, or ideas, and appeal to our senses. It is the art of creating mental
images through descriptive words. Writers use either literal or figurative
language to help readers picture or imagine a scene by engaging their
senses and evoking emotions.

THERE ARE 5 CATEGORIES OF LANGUAGE IMAGERY


A. Visual Imagery- describe what we see. Visual Imagery may
include; color, shapes, size and patterns.
B. Auditory Imagery- describe what we hear. Includes enjoyable
sound, noises, the lack of noise.
C. Olfactory Imagery- describe what we smell. Can include;
fragrances and odors.
D. Gustatory Imagery- describe what we taste. It includes; sweetness,
sourness, saltiness, and spiciness.
E. Tactile Imagery- describe what we touch and feel. Can include;
temperature, texture, touch, and movement.
