The depletion of vaccine supply has become a growing concern as countries work towards

vaccinating their populations against COVID-19. Efforts must be made to ensure equitable
distribution of the vaccine and address supply chain challenges, thereby enabling increased
production capacity and reducing the risk of a prolonged global vaccine shortage. (Su et al.,
2022)

Furthermore, unequal access to vaccines among countries has been a major obstacle to
achieving global immunity against the virus. Multilateral initiatives such as the COVID-19
Vaccines Global Access facility have been working towards procurement and equitable
distribution of vaccines for low- and middle-income countries. (Petersen et al., 2022)

However, the current global demand for COVID-19 vaccines far exceeds the available supply
and manufacturing capacity, making it challenging to secure doses of vaccines for certain
countries. Adequate safeguards are required to ensure that no country, region or continent is
left with a huge burden of an unvaccinated population. Countries must work together to
establish long-term solutions for vaccine distribution and production. Collaboration and
transparency amongst manufacturers and countries are key to addressing vaccine supply
shortages, with a focus on scaling up production capacity to meet global demand. In addition,
efforts must be made to address the root causes of vaccine supply depletion. (Hotez, 2014)
