Dorothea by Taylor Swift

The song that I chose to analyze is called “dorothea” and it is sung and written by Taylor swift, the
song was released on 11th of December of 2021 and is a part of the album “evermore”. This
particular song is very well written and can be seen from various perspectives which can be
interesting to deeply get into the meaning of it and analyze it. I encountered this song while
listening to Taylor Swift’s album which is one of my favorite albums and dorothea is one of my
favorite songs at the moment. From what I understood before reading the text of it, the song talks
about friendship and I usually cherish the friendships in my life that is why I chose this song.

In the song it is clear that the writer is telling us a story by mentioning certain things which
reminded them of their friend. In the first verse Taylor swift sings, “You got shiny friends since you
left townA tiny screen's the only place I see you now And I got nothing but well wishes for ya”.
This gives a vision that Dorothea who Taylor is singing about has left the old town of hers and got
new popular friends. She even mentions that she is so busy to the point where she only sees her on
screens. This can be understood as Dorothea is now famous.

In the chorus and post-chorus Taylor sings and lets Dorothea know that she has her full support
when she said “If you’re ever tired of being known for who you know, you know that you’ll always
know me”. This explains that Taylor is still supporting her friend even though they are in different
places in life now, and if she ever gets tired of the fame Taylor will always be there. Taylor goes on
to sing “You’re a queen sellin’ dreams, sellin’ makeup and magazines, from you i’d buy anything”
which makes it obvious that Dorothea moved on to be this famous figure and again Taylor shows
her supportive side to her old friend.

At the end of the song Taylor wonders if Dorothea is still the same person she met a long time ago.
Taylor continues to say “I guess I’ll never know” which gives an illustration that Taylor almost
never meets Dorothea that is why she will never know and Dorothea will go on with her shows.
