IV. Read the following passage. Decide if the statements are TRUE or FALSE and choose the correct
answer (A, B, C, or D) (1.5 pts)
The phrase “healthy lifestyle” is a definition of how you should live if you want to get the healthiest
body you can - one that both looks good and feels good. You know the obvious behaviors that describe
someone who is healthy and takes care of themselves. A healthy person doesn't smoke, eats healthy foods with
plenty of fruits, vegetables and fiber and, of course, exercises regularly. A healthy person also knows how to
manage stress, gets good quality sleep each night, doesn't drink to much, doesn't sit to much, does everything in
moderation all the time. When you look at everything tat could possibly make a healthy lifestyle, you can see
just how hard all of those things are in our current world.
There is no such thing as a “bad” food, but there are some foods you should try not to have regular
basis. Fast food refers to food that can be prepared and served quickly. It is popular as the food is inexpensive,
convenient, and tastes good. Because fast food is high in sodium, trans fat, and cholesterol, it isn’t something
you should eat often.
The good news is you don’t have to change everything at the same time. In fact the trick to healthy
living is making small changes - taking more steps each day, adding fruit to your cereal, having an extra glass
of water, or saying no to second helping of buttery mashed potatoes. One thing you can do right now to make
lifestyle healthier is to move more.
* Decide the statements TRUE or FALSE.

answer (A, B, C, or D) (1.5 pts)
A flood is a body of water that covers land which is normally dry. Floods are common natural disasters
that can affect millions of people around the world. They destroy houses and buildings, and carry soil away
from valuable farming land. Floods can also contaminate drinking water and lead to diseases.
At least once a year the plains around large rivers are flooded. This is due to the amount of water that
rivers bring with them, because of heavy rainfall or melting snow in the mountainous regions. Thunderstorms
can cause flash floods, in which small rivers can swell quickly and carry up to ten times the normal amount of
water. Tropical storms, cyclones and hurricanes also lead to flooding. Hurricane Katrina caused a massive
flooding of the whole Mississippi Delta in 2004.
Floods are not always destructive natural events. Before the Aswan High Dam was built yearly floods in
Egypt brought along nutrients and made the land around the Nile very fertile. Every year floods during the
monsoon season in Bangladesh not only deposit fertile soil but also kill thousands of people and leave millions
homeless.

answer (A, B, C, or D) (1.5 pts)
Stress isn’t just a problem for adults. Young people, however, are also suffering from stress with different
causes. Below are some factors that contribute to those youngsters’ unhealthy levels of stress.
Teenagers often feel stressed about academic and extracurricular demands. Students feel pressure to
complete daily homework, finish projects and study for exams. In addition to the quest for good grades, teens
may also participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, student council, cheerleading and clubs. The
added pastimes may contribute to teenage stress and anxiety if the activities are competitive and require
scheduling that cuts into study and relaxation time.
Although teens may have a solid group of friends, their peers may pressure them to hang out instead of
studying or experiment with drugs, alcohol or sexual activities that go against their morals or family rules. Peer
pressure, bullying on campus and harassment may distract teens from studying, leading them to feel additional
stress and anxiety.
Teenagers can also feel stress at home because of family pressures and problems. Arguments with siblings,
disagreements with parents over rules and expectations and the need to consistently care for younger siblings
may also contribute to teen stress.
Teens may also feel stress and anxiety when experiencing a sense of loss. “Loss” can mean the end of a
relationship, friendship or cherished extracurricular activity. Breaking up with a boyfriend or best friend, for
example, may lead them to doubt their self-worth or feel anxious about attending school or social functions
because of their change in social status.
