Alfred Buckland was an English
Immigrant who immigrated to
NZ in 1850. thrived. His
wealthiness is represented by his
house, "Highwic"

LIFE STORY
Alfred Buckland was a NZ
landowner, business/auctioneer
farmer and sheep farmer. Emigrated
to NZ 1850 on the ship "Sir Edward
Paget".
Early on, his house/business was in
New Market, he sold wool. He
started buying land in Waikato,
LOTS OF LAND, his biggest sale was
40 km^2.

He had two wives, he had 3 sons and 7
daughters with the first wife, and 4 sons
and 7 daughters with his second.
His brother was already buying land for
himself in South Auckland (Alfred settled
on that land early on,).This all happened
when the NZ insurance Company was
founded, he was an auditor then became
a director (like his brother).

LEGACY FROM BUCKLAND

He was respected by his generosity and

character. He brang eurpeans to live in the
country by selling a LARGE amount of land.
