RADIOGRAPHIC POSITIONING AND

RADIOLOGIC PROCEDURES II

MOBILE
EXAMINATIONS
Department of Radiologic Technology
Discussed by: CHEYEN E. MOLON, RRT, PhD
Preliminary steps for the radiographer
before mobile radiography is performed:
• Announce your presence to the nursing staff, and ask for
assistance if needed.
• Determine that the correct patient is in the room.
• Introduce yourself to patient and family as a radiographer and
explain the examination.
• Observe the medical equipment in the room, as well as other
apparatus and IV poles with fluids. Move the equipment if
necessary.
• Ask family members and visitors to leave.
Reminders when doing mobile radiography:
1. Patient mobility. Gentleness and caution must prevail. Never move a limb
that has been operated on or sometimes the patient grants permission.
2. Fractures. Must be cautious, resourceful and work in accordance with the
patient’s condition and pain tolerance.
3. Interfering devices. If device cannot be removed, it may be necessary to
angle the CR or adjust the position of the IR to obtain the best radiograph.
4. Positioning and asepsis.
4.1. Patient shd be warned of possible discomfort and assure that examination
will be short as possible.
4.2. If IR will touch the bare skin, cover with cloth or paper cover to protect the
patient’s skin.
4.3. Use impermeable barrier if it may come in contact with body fluids and
other potentially infectious material.
