Quick Checklist for reports and presentations

1. Report is written in the third person and the correct tense is used for the appropriate
section
2. Reference list is complete with articles/books easily traceable
3. In-text referencing is used
4. SEM Images are labelled as “Backscattered Electron Images” or “Secondary Electron Images”
and the acceleration voltage and magnification (or scale bar) is shown
5. SEM-EDS spectra are labelled as such
6. Optical Micrographs are labelled as such and the following information is quoted:
a. The etchant / preparation method used
b. A scale bar (and / or magnification)
7. Tables, figures and equations are numbered:
a. Table numbers on placed top of table
b. Figure numbers and descriptions are placed beneath the figure
c. Equations are numbered, with each term defined and a unit given
8. ALL abbreviations are defined
9. Statistical analysis is presented properly:
a. Data is presented with an average (and standard deviation / error where
appropriate)
b. Regression plots have an R2 value (and an equation where appropriate – it is
appropriate when there is a relevant scientific equation that describes the behaviour
e.g. if you plot F vs. m, to get “a” for F=ma OR where the empirical fit has a practical
use, e.g. plotting flowrate of some substance against the dial-setting etc.)
10. Front page is correct and declaration on plagiarism is attached
11. Report is mailed AND submitted via clickUP.
