CHALLENGE 1

Problem Statement
Multimodal transportation refers to using multiple modes of transportation, such as
metro, buses, autos, cars, bikes, walking, etc., to complete a single trip. Though
Bengaluru has diverse transportation options, there is scope to improve integration,
access, and efficiency (in terms of cost or transit time).

ONE STOP SOLUTION

The below app solution provides a comprehensive one-stop solution for multimodal
transportation, from route planning to ticketing, real-time tracking, and last-mile
connectivity. With geocoding and geolocation APIs, users can enter their current
location and destination address, and the app will find the most efficient and optimal
route based on factors like distance, traffic conditions, and mode of transportation.
Users can then book their tickets and validate their journey through the app, with the
option to add emergency contacts and use safety toolkits like GPS tracking and
emergency assistance. Finally, the app provides last-mile connectivity options like
auto-rickshaws, bike-sharing, and carpooling, making it a seamless and efficient way to
complete the entire journey. Overall, the app solution provides a complete end-to-end
solution for multimodal transportation, offering convenience, safety, and efficiency to
users.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

To create a fully functional MVP of a multimodal transportation app with the

mentioned features, the following technologies and algorithms would be required:

1. Geocoding and Geolocation APIs: These APIs would be used to identify and
locate the user's current location and the destination address provided by the
user. Examples of such APIs include Google Maps API and OpenStreetMap API.
2. Real-time Tracking and Smart Route Optimization: To enable real-time tracking
of buses, metros, and other modes of transportation, APIs like GTFS (General
Transit Feed Specification) and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) could be used.
For route optimization, algorithms like Dijkstra's algorithm, A* algorithm, and
Genetic algorithm could be used to find the most efficient and optimal route
based on factors like distance, traffic conditions, and mode of transportation.
3. Payment Gateway Integration: A payment gateway integration would be
required to allow users to pay for their tickets online. Examples of such payment
gateways include Stripe, PayPal, and Braintree.
4. Safety Tool Kit Integration: Integration of safety tool kits such as emergency
buttons, GPS tracking, and real-time communication with support teams would
be essential for user safety.
5. Digital Ticket Generation: To generate digital tickets that can be shown at all
stations, a QR code or barcode generation and scanning API could be used.
6. Machine Learning: Machine learning algorithms can be used to improve route
optimization and personalize recommendations for the user based on their
previous travel patterns, time of travel, and preferred mode of transportation.
FUNCTIONALITIES OF THE APP IN DETAIL

Overall, the MVP of the multimodal transportation app would consist of a landing page,
input box for current location and destination, preference for multimodal or single
mode, safety tool kit integration, and display of available transportation between the
locations. The app would then use real-time tracking and smart route planning
algorithms to display the best route, along with alternate options and the cost of the
ticket. The user would confirm the booking and make the payment, and then receive a
digital ticket that can be used to access the selected modes of transportation. The app
would also track the user's location and prompt them to validate their boarding and
completion of each mode of transportation, ensuring that the user reaches their
destination safely and efficiently

➢ The Landing Page displays the functional features of Smart Route Planning,
Real-time Tracking, Integrated Ticketing System, and Last-Mile Connectivity.
➢ The user is provided with an option to log in or create an account.
➢ On- Clicking the Login/Sign Up Page, users can either log in or sign up with their
credentials or social media accounts.
➢ After logging in, users are directed to the home page. They can see an input box
to enter their current location and destination address.
➢ Users will be asked to choose their preference of mode between multi-modal or
single mode.
➢ They can also choose their safety toolkit and set us their emergency contacts
before selecting a ride. The safety toolkit would have these features-
● Emergency Assistance: This feature allows riders to quickly contact
emergency services such as 911 or local emergency services directly
from the app. In case of an emergency, this feature can help riders
quickly alert the authorities.
● Trusted Contacts: With this feature, riders can add up to five trusted
contacts who will be notified of their trip details and can track their ride
in real-time.
➢ If multi-modal is selected, users can choose the types of transportation they
prefer for their trip.
➢ An option will be provided to save the input for future use.
➢ After providing all the necessary information, users can click on the "Find
Route" button to display the best route.
➢ The user is directed to the Route Selection Page, where a detailed trace path of
the trip is shown with starting time and the different modes of transportation
available at the coming hours and their journey completing times
➢ The user shall be provided with an option to check for alternate options for
trains, buses, and metros.
➢ Once the user is sure of the route and mode they want to opt for, users can
confirm the booking of seats for the respective transportation.
➢ They can then calculate the total cost of the ticket by clicking on the "Calculate
Cost" button.
➢ Once confirmed, a booking ID is generated with a digital ticket. This booking ID
or QR can be used as a pass to enter stations.
➢ The user can trace back to the Tracking and Validation Page, where the User’s
location will be tracked through GPS and prompted to confirm if they have
boarded the chosen transportation and completed the trip.
➢ After completing each mode of transportation, users can validate it through the
buttons provided in the app.
➢ The Last-Mile Connectivity feature
➢ Once the user has selected their preferred mode of transportation and
calculated the total cost of their trip, they will be presented with an option to
book their last-mile connectivity.
➢ Upon selecting this option, the app will use the user's current location to find
the nearest auto driver or bike-sharing service available. The user will be shown
a list of available options, along with the estimated time of arrival and cost for
each one.
➢ The user can then select the option that best suits their needs and confirm their
booking. The app will then provide real-time tracking of the driver or
bike-sharing service, allowing the user to see the driver's location and estimated
arrival time.
➢ To make this feature easy to use, it should be prominently displayed on the
route page, along with clear instructions and information about the available
options.
➢ In terms of design, the last-mile connectivity feature can be displayed as a
separate section on the route page, with clear and attractive icons representing
the different available options such as auto-rickshaws, bike-sharing, and
carpooling.
➢ The section will also include a map displaying the user's current location and the
locations of the available drivers or bike-sharing services.
➢ Overall, incorporating the Last-Mile Connectivity feature into the route page
of the app would provide users with a seamless and efficient way to complete
their journey, enhancing their overall transportation experience.

Landing Page: The landing page provides information about the app's features,
such as smart route planning, real-time tracking, an integrated ticketing system,
and last-mile connectivity. Users can choose to log in or create an account.
