Looking back, the most frustrating part of the senior project is finding mentor candidates

and actually finding someone willing to put in the time to help you. I reached out to numerous

people before feeding my initial mentor. Even after that I still had trouble contacting her on

occasions due to scheduling issues which resulted in me asking my second interviewee to fulfill

many of the roles I needed from a mentor. If I did things differently I would have planned out my

project more so that many of the things I am planning to do after the project is done, would have

been added to my presentation. The most helpful people during my project were Fetlework

Tefferi and Elan Delgadillo. Fetlework Tefferi was the woman who guided me through my

service and another person I talked through my project with. She was my second interviewee and

acted as a second mentor of sorts in my later half of the project. Elan Delgadillo was the head of

adult and teen services at the Contra Costa Library. He is the one responsible for my project

coming into fruition. This project represents a lot of the unspoken and more messy parts of my

upbringing and heritage. Many people only like to focus on the good, ignore the ugly and as a

result many important life changing moments get swept under the rug. Seeing this first hand

since childhood, with both of my parents, I connected to this topic extremely well and was very

fulfilled with my work during this project. My outlook on this issue has not really changed but

has definitely evolved during it. Speaking to multiple immigrants and hearing their first hand

experiences provided me with so much information and different perspectives that I did not have

before.
