Reflection on My Senior Project

I have had my five older brothers take on this project and put in the hard

work to accomplish this task. So seeing them do it first, pretty much gave me a

little experience on the project as well. Their insight on the project definitely set

me up for success in completing this project.

Looking at starting this project, my viewpoint was that it was a daunting task

that seemed extremely large and pretty difficult. Finding out what I wanted to

research, writing the paper, and presenting, all seemed like the easy part to me.

The things I did not do well in, though, begin with the articles I chose. These

articles maintained first person accounts and were not too insightful towards my

actual paper. The best articles that I used the most were the articles I got from

my teacher. These articles directly related to my research and gave me most of

the information that I used for my paper. If I had attained better articles in the

first place, I would have had a lot more research relating to my topic, instead of

useless articles that were hard to incorporate into my paper.

Another difficult task that took way too long for me to complete was the

volunteer work. For my volunteer work I waited till the deadline was close and

then I got started with my connections and reaching out to folks who could use my
help. Sure I put in a little work to contact people and ask for their help, but I did

not sit down and focus on it like I did towards the deadline of the volunteer

project. Figuring out that I wanted to give lunches to the homeless was a hard

thing to do, because I could not really correlate it back to my project. Getting the

ride-along with a police officer took a long time to set up, just because the officer

took a long time to be open to give the ride-along to me. The ride-along was

amazingly insightful for me in my project and for my decision in what I want my

career to be. Seeing the officer talk to me, but also scanning the entire area of

wherever we were at just showed his incredible training and wowed me towards his

work.

Thinking about where I am now, compared to where I was when I started,

gives me a sense of pride in my work. Getting this project done has opened my

eyes a little more to what the police do and what they have to put up with. I

definitely respect and appreciate their work for society and I look forward to my

suspected involvement in the Police Force.
