The malefactions of drinking and driving

It’s already a well know that the combination of drinking and driving can end up as tragical and
dramatical situation. But even though many people are aware of that, so many families are still
paying the consequence of that choice.

According with the website of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) 1, says that: “Every
hour in Canada, an average of 10 federal criminal charges and provincial short-term licence
suspensions are laid for alcohol or drug-impaired driving.” - this is a very high and frightening
number, especially when we know that this number it’s related of people who have been injured or
even involved in fatal car accident situations. This is a sad fact of knowing that this act occurred
because of a decision of someone drinking and driving, and unfortunately this recklessness is
ending more and more in a collision with another driver, the resulting damages can be devastating.

Not even mentioning the number of survivors of these accidents can suffer serious and catastrophic
injuries, which could impact the rest of their lives and the lives of their family members. Also, it’s
important to mentioned that a family can be ruined in many ways, because of a car accident, not
only for those who are losing one of their loved ones, but also for families who know that their loved
one has caused a tragic situation in someone's families.

It is a well-known fact that drunk driving is against the law, and it is an illegal act, that people should
avoid making this choice, not only to protect themselves but also to avoid others paying for their
wrong choices. Also, it is important to remember that we are living in the 21st century, which means
that it is unacceptable that people are still choosing to be so selfish, instead of finding other healthy
alternatives for times when they are not in the ability to drive. Especially now that we have so many
apps available, where people can, for example, order a taxi, or uber drive or even looking for a place
to stay overnight near the place you are using, for example, Airbnb app. Not only these functions can
be done in a matter of minutes, they also can be saving so many lives by taking these steps.

Overall, the importance of the harms of drinking and driving can already be described, as not only is
it a bad choice for themselves but they are also making people on the road vulnerable to their

decision. People should stop and plan healthy resolutions for times when they know they are going
to drink, and thus avoid tragic situations not only in their life but possibly in someone else's life.
