ABSTRACT

BEHAVIORAL FACTORS TO PREVENT HYPERTENSION IN


COMMUNITY IN SIMARMATA HEALTH CENTRE
IN 2020

Hypertension has long been an issue that causes health problems in the
community, nowadays hypertension rarely causes symptoms or real limitations on
the patient's functional state. The number of hypertension cases in the Simarmata
Health Center Work Area is quite high from year to year. In 2017 there were
1,212 hypertension sufferers, in 2018 there were 2,701 cases of hypertension and
in 2019 there were 2,809 cases. Based on preliminary research that poor
preventive behavior was due to poor public knowledge, negative attitudes and the
absence of support from the family. The stuay aimed to determine the behavioral
factors for preventing hypertension in the community.
The study used an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional
approach. The research population was all people aged >45 years of 1,063
people with a sample was 291 respondents taken using cluster sampling
technique. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analyses with chi square
test statistics.
The results showed that the statistical value of each variable includes
knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.000) and family support (p=0.000).
The conclusion showed that an influence of knowledge, attitudes and
family support on the prevention of hypertension found in the community at
Simarmata Health Centre. It is hoped that health workers could provide
education to the whole community about hypertension prevention efforts by
providing counseling and sharing information about hypertension prevention
through any media with the aim of increasing knowledge, fostering positive
attitudes and growing a sense of concern for families towards preventing
hypertension in community.
