Reading comprehension: The perfect way to learn English!

Hi! My name’s Noah and I’m Belgian. Last summer, I wanted to improve my English
so I went abroad for a month. Destination: London! I went there with students
from the International Organization “WEP”. The objective? Being the best in
English! This educational trip was the best of my life!

We left Belgium on Friday 1st July and took the coach to Calais in France. Then I
took the Ferry to Dover in England. For a better experience, we all stayed in host
families. I personally stayed with Ramõn, one of the Spanish students. Every day
in the morning we got up at quarter to eight and had breakfast with the host
family. Then we had a shower and got dressed. Finally, our host father drove us
to school with his children. Our host mother stayed at home to look after her
new-born baby. His name is Colin and he is 3 months old, adorable!

We arrived at St Gabriel’s College around half

past eight and classes started at quarter to
nine. The first course of the day was… French!
Not really interesting for me as French is my
mother tongue, but after the ten o’clock-break,
I had two hours of English grammar… No need to say that I learnt a lot! Our
teacher, Miss Figg, was particularly enthusiastic and funny. It was a pleasure to
follow her lessons. I ended the morning with one hour of Biology with Mr Collins,
the most motivated person I’ve ever met!

At one o’clock, just after lunch, we took the bus

with the other international students and we
went to the city centre. There we met our guide
who helped us discovering the capital. I visited
the famous Madame Tussauds museum as well as
the London Eye. We could see all London from
the top. Marvellous!
I spent most of the evenings at home with
Ramõn and the host family. They were
really friendly and helpful. We went to the
cinema together but also to a typical
English restaurant and we even went to an
amusement park on Sunday!

I came back to Belgium on 1st August in the evening. I was pleased to come back
but I really hope that I will go back to London one day!
