Answer: Sara Duterte, Vice President and Education Secretary, presented the Basic Education Report
(BER) on January 30, 2023, which essentially lays out her department's agenda. The research identifies
the problems plaguing the country's basic education system, which has since fallen behind the rest of
Southeast Asia.

Answer: According to Duterte's speech, "MATATAG" stands for "Make the curriculum relevant to produce

classroom congestion and destroyed school infrastructures as a result of natural disasters that continue

reality that there is a need to build, repair, and maintain school infrastructures to accommodate the
growing number of learners all over the Philippines," Duterte said. She added that the DepEd has
allocated funds to start building more disaster-resilient schools this year.
