DIAGNOSTIC TEST

Learning Objectives
This test aims at identifying if students can:
›› read cardinal numbers up to ten written as words. (GSE 23)
›› recognise a range of basic everyday nouns and adjectives. (GSE 10)
›› write basic personal information (e.g. name, age) with support. (GSE 17)

These learning objectives (LOs) range from 10 to 23 in the GSE value and are used as a diagnosis of students’ previous
knowledge of the language.
In the Progress Tests, students will be able to see how much they have progressed from the LOs presented in the
Diagnostic Test as they will be able to expand the way they give personal information both in speaking and in writing, in the
descriptors with values ranging from 17 to 23. Students will be able to do this with the teacher’s help, who will guide their
reflection on what they are able to do in the Diagnostic Test, what they are able to do in every Progress Test and how that
learning progress can be identified and assessed. This reflection and assessment is important for students’ self-esteem as
well as for the development of their autonomous learning.
