1400's - 1700's
Age of Exploration and Discoveries
European history when overseas exploration began to
grow in popularity. IIt is responsible for influencing
european culture, initiating globalization, and introducing
colonialism around the world.

1500's - 1600's
Philippines under Spain
Philippines discovered by Spain under the Ferdinand
MAgellan expedition on March 17, 1521. He was sent by
king Charles I.

1600's - 1900's
Filipino Revolts against Spanish Rule
Lakandula and Sulayman Revolt (1574) or the tagalog
revolt against the Legazpi and Lavezares
administrations. Novales Revolt (1823) in Manila against
peninsulares.

1700's - 1800's
Age of Enlightenment
The enlightenment included a range of ideas centered on
the value of human happiness, the pursuit of knowledge
obtain by means of reason and the evidence of the
senses, and ideals such as liberty, progress, toleration,
fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of
church and state.

Industrial Revolution
In modern history, the process of change from an
agrarian and handicraft economy to one dominated by
industry and machine manufacturing. These
technological changes introduced novel ways of working
and living and fundamentally transformed society. This
process began in Britain in the 18th century and from
there spread to other parts of the world.

1900's
Opening of the Philippines to World Trade
The opening of Philippine provincial ports to the world
market in 1855 served to solidify the direct incorporation of
regions outside Manila into the international capitalist
system. This article reconstructs the events surrounding
this important episode by situating it in the context of
global capitalist dynamics and Spanish imperial decay, and
the conjuncture in which local interest groups manoeuvred
to intervene in the colonial state processes of the Spanish
Philippines.
