2. Section I has SEVEN questions and Section II has THREE questions,

7. Electronic devices are to be used ONLY to access and view this

8. You are advised to us the first 10 minutes of the examination time to read

SECTION I

Answer ALL questions in this section.


All working must be clearly shown.

1. a) Using a calculator, or otherwise, determine the exact value of:


(12.3)2 − (0.246 ÷ 3)
and write the answer

i) exactly
ii) correct to two significant figures (2 marks)

b) Mark spends 38 of his monthly income on housing. Of the REMAINDER, he spends 13


on food and saves what is left. Calculate

i) the fraction of his monthly income spent on food. (2 marks)


ii) the fraction of his monthly income that he saved. (2 marks)

c) The iPhone 15 was about to be released, so Mark sold his Samsung cellphone for $950
making a loss of 20 %.
What was the original cost of the Samsung cellphone? (3 marks)

2. a) Simplify, expressing your answer as a single fraction:

c) Tickets for a football match are sold at $30 for EACH adult and $15 for EACH child.
A company bought 28 tickets.
x of those tickets bought were for adults.
i) Write in terms of x, the number of tickets for children (1 mark)
ii) Show that the total amount spent on the 28 tickets is $(15x + 420) (1 mark)
iii) Given that the cost of the 28 tickets was $660, calculate the number
of CHILDREN tickets bought by the company. (2 marks)

3. a) The diagram below shows the graph of three lines: L1, L2, L3 and the shaded
region R which represents the common region for all 3 inequalities associate
with those lines.

Using the graph determine:


i) the gradient of the line L3 (2 marks)
ii) the equation of the line L2 (1 mark)
iii) if L1 is y = 2x, state the inequality shown on the graph. (1 mark)

b) The diagram below shows triangles X’Y’Z’ and X’’Y’’Z’’ drawn on a square grid.

i) Triangle X’Y’Z’ is the image of triangle XYZ after an enlargement of


scale factor 2 with center (5, 1). Using the answer sheet provided:
a) plot the center of enlargement, label it C (1 mark)
b) draw triangle XYZ the object for triangle X’Y’Z’ (2 marks)

ii) Triangle X’Y’Z’ is mapped onto triangle X’’Y’’Z’’ by a reflection in the line P.
State the equation of the mirror line P. (1 mark)

iii) State the translation vector that would move the point Y’ to Z’’ (1 mark)

4. A group of 100 students estimated the mass, m(grams) of a seed. The cumulative frequency
curve below shows the results.

a) Using the cumulative frequency curve, estimate


i) The median (1 mark)
ii) The upper quartile (1 mark)
iii) Semi interquartile range (2 marks)
iv) The number of students whose estimate is 2.8 grams or less. (1 mark)

b) i) Using the cumulative frequency curve , complete the frequency table below

6. The diagram below, not drawn to scale, shows a flexible piece of card in the shape of a sector
circle with center O and radius 18 cm.

a) Show that the perimeter of the card is 800 mm. (3 marks)


b) Calculate the area of the card OPQR. (2 marks)

c) The card is bent and the edges OP and OR are taped together so that the card forms the
curved surface of a cone with a circular base, PQR as seen below.

i) Copy the diagram of the cone formed showing clearly the measurement
18cm, the perpendicular height, h, and the radius, r, of the base of the cone.
(2 marks)
ii) Calculate the radius of the circular base of the cone. (2 marks)

7. At an entertainment hall, tables and chairs can be arranged in two different ways
As shown in the diagram below.

a) Draw the diagram for 4 tables using Arrangement L (2 marks)

b) The number of chairs, C, that can be placed around a given number of tables , T,
for either arrangement L or M, forms a pattern. The values for C for the first 3 diagrams
for both arrangements are shown in the table below. Study the pattern of numbers in
each row of the table.
Complete the rows numbered (i), (ii) and (iii)

c) Leon needs to arrange tables to seat 70 people for a birthday party. Which of the
arrangements, L or M, will allow him to rent the LEAST number of tables?
Use calculations to justify your answer. (2 marks)

ALGEBRA RELATIONS, FUNCTIONS AND GRAPHS

8 a) The function g(x) = ax2 + bx + c. When written in the form a(x + h)2 + k,
g(x) equals 2(x -3)2 -5.
i) If a = 2, Determine the values of b, and c. (2 marks)
ii) A sketch of the graph of g(x) is shown below:

State the coordinates of L, M and N. (3 marks)

b) The function f(x) = 3 + 5x –x2


i) Complete the table of values below for f(x)

9. a) H, J, K, L and M are points on the circumference of a circle with center O.


MK is a diameter of the circle and it is parallel to HJ. MJ = JL and angle JMK = 38o.

tracking stations, P and Q, relative to a point O. P is on a bearing of 025o from O
and OP = 400km. Q is on a bearing of 080o from P and PQ = 700 km.

the bearings of 025o and 080o. (1 mark)
ii) Calculate
