biscuits and one cup of ice cream cost $9.

(i) Write a pair of simultaneous equations in x and y to represent the given

information above. (2 marks)

(ii) Solve the equations in (b) (i) above to find the cost of one packet of
biscuits and the cost of one cup of ice cream. (4 marks)
(c) Simplify the expressions:

(i) 3(x – y) + 4(x + 2y) (3 marks)

4𝑥 2 x 3𝑥 4

(ii) If x is an integer, determine the SMALLEST value of x that satisfies the

inequality in (d) (i) above. (1 mark)
3. (a) The relationship between kinetic energy, E, mass, m, and velocity, v, for a
moving particle is

1
𝐸= 𝑚𝑣 2
2
