ablaze with rumours of a feud between Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Kylie Jenner, with
many attributing Gomez's recent social media hiatus to the "mean girl" rumors. Both Bieber and
Gomez have been under intense scrutiny for their romantic relationships with Justin Bieber, so in
October they attempted to end any lingering feud rumours by posing for a photo together.
However, it appears that a series of recent online slights have reignited an entangled tension
between the two stars, and now a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family is involved and
actively bullying Selena. A few weeks ago, in early January, Gomez was the subject of body-
shaming attention after photos of the 30-year-old singer and actress in a swimsuit were published
from her vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Shortly after, Hailey Bieber shared a TikTok of herself, Kendall Jenner, and Justine Skye lip-
syncing to audio that said, "I'm not saying she deserves it, but I'm saying God's timing is always
right." Several commenters took this as the girls poking fun at Gomez. Since then, Bieber has
removed the video, but it has been reuploaded several times online. Screenshots shared by users
claimed to show Gomez commented on the video. "It's okay! I don't let these things get me
down! Be nice to everyone!" the comment apparently read.

Screenshots also show a comment from Bieber as well that said: "I never comment on this type
of thing but we were just having a girls night and did a random TikTok sound for fun. It's not
directed at anyone." The seeds of discontent were already being sown and Hailey had taken the
first jab at Selena, but things were only about to get worse from here. Last month, Gomez
addressed her weight gain, which she attributes to her lupus and bipolar disorder, both of which
she has spoken openly about in the past.

During a TikTok Live broadcast on February 16th, she revealed that her weight changes
depending on the medications she takes. "We have days where maybe we feel like shit, but I
would much rather be healthy and take care of myself," Gomez said. "My medications are
important, and I believe they are what helps me." Gomez told viewers that she was "not a
model," adding, "I think they're awesome, mind you, I'm just definitely not that."

Gomez recently surpassed Kylie Jenner, who had 380 million followers, to become the most-
followed woman on Instagram, with 383 million. Kylie was definitely filled with rage over this
and just needed an excuse to lash out at Selena, and she just gave her one. Seemingly out of the
blue, Gomez shared a series of photos and videos on social media with the caption, "accidentally
laminated my brows too much," joking with fans that she had done something silly.

Shortly after, Jenner allegedly dissed Gomez by posting two cryptic photos to her Instagram
story. The first image was a selfie with the text "This was an accident????" superimposed over
her eyebrows. Then, Jenner showed off a screenshot from a FaceTime conversation with Bieber
in which the two men focused on their eyebrows. Floods of TikTok users weighed in on the
rumors, calling it "mean girl" and "childish" behavior. "It's not a coincidence anymore," one of
the most popular commenters on a TikTok video about the incident said.
This was a huge taunt by Kylie at Selena and her physical appearance, especially since she
knows how insecure Selena is about it. Jenner commented on a February 22 TikTok that called
her out for "shading Selena Gomez," denying those intentions. Gomez then chimed in, trying to
calm her supporters down. "This is reaching," Jenner wrote. "No shade towards Selena ever and I
didn't see her eyebrow posts! You guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly."

This was too little, too late, and only a PR move by Kylie to undo the massive storm she had
created over social media for bullying Selena along with Hailey. Selena also understood this and
played along to Jenner’s game, writing "Agreed @kyliejenner. It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of
Kylie!" Gomez's comments on TikToks in recent days, however, have led some of her fans to
believe that she is no longer amicable and is instead fighting back.

Gomez later made a remark under a TikTok that featured a clip of Bieber's tongue-out antics
when Taylor Swift's album was mentioned. "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one
of the best in the game," she wrote in defense of the other singer. In addition, Gomez wrote "I
love you" under a video in which a TikToker defended Gomez, calling Bieber and Jenner "nepo
babies," "mean girls," and "bitches" for spreading rumors about them. If this isn’t a fiery
response, we don’t know what is!

Reactions online have reached a fever pitch, despite the fact that the three stars appear to be
doing their best to keep any spats between them under wraps. Many fans are coming to Gomez's
defense, but others have accused her of stoking the drama. Individuals are taking sides by
following and unfollowing accounts associated with the two parties. The public humiliation and
memes being spread over the internet because of Hailey and Kylie’s awful comments, however,
seemed to be too overwhelming for Selena, who was forced to leave the internet because of it.

Gomez said in a TikTok Live that she needs to take a break from social media because of the
constant stream of rumors and criticism. "I'm so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in
the whole world, and I just couldn't be happier. I'm good," she said. "I love who I am. And, yeah.
I'm gonna be taking a second from social media 'cause it's... this is a little silly. I'm 30. I'm too
old for this."
The drama has reached critical mass to become its own meme, and fans have continued to piece
together what they perceive to be ongoing "shade" or hidden easter eggs in subsequent posts. It
will be interesting to see how Selena makes her return to social media and how she decides to
handle this situation moving forward, but for now, it seems like Hailey and Kylie have pushed
her out!
