1. Weather patterns in Accra, Ghana, have shown some shifts in recent years.

In the past
5 years, Accra experiences a tropical savanna climate, characterized by distinct wet
and dry seasons. However, climate change drastically affected these patterns. Climate
change has generally led to increased temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and
more extreme weather events like heavy downpour.
2. The main source of energy for residents in Legon area is fossil fuel (particularly oil
and natural gas). There are others like hydroelectric power, and increasingly,
renewable energy sources like solar and wind. It is less sustainable and climate-
friendly even though we have had significant environmental impact from climate
change. Fossil fuels contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, while
renewable energy sources are generally considered more sustainable and climate-
friendly as they have a lower carbon footprint.
3. One small change that can be implemented in my community today to help fight
climate change is promoting energy efficiency. Encouraging residents to use energy-
efficient appliances, such as LED light bulbs or energy-saving devices, can reduce
overall energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, raising
awareness about the importance of conserving water, reducing waste, and practicing
sustainable transportation methods like carpooling or using public transport can
contribute to mitigating climate change's impact.
4. There are several tech initiatives globally that are tackling challenges associated with
climate change. Some notable examples include:
 Smart Grids and Energy Management Systems: These initiatives focus on
optimizing the distribution and consumption of energy, enabling more efficient
electricity use. Smart grids integrate renewable energy sources, energy storage, and
demand response mechanisms to improve the management of electricity supply and
reduce energy waste.

 Climate Data Analytics and Modeling: Advanced analytics and modeling tools are
utilized to analyze climate data, forecast future climate patterns, and assess the
impacts of climate change. These initiatives play a crucial role in developing effective
strategies for adaptation and mitigation in response to climate change.

 Renewable Energy Technologies: Advancements in solar, wind, and hydropower

technologies contribute to the increased utilization of renewable energy sources.
These technologies help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and play a significant role
in efforts to decarbonize the global energy mix.

 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): CCS technologies capture carbon dioxide
emissions from power plants and industrial processes, storing them underground or
repurposing them for other purposes. CCS aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
from large-scale emitters, helping to mitigate climate change.
1. These examples highlight various technological initiatives that address climate change
challenges. It's important to note that many other initiatives and technologies are
being developed worldwide to combat climate change and promote sustainability.
