Fat (Crude) or Ether Extract in Meat

Final Action
(a) Weigh 3–4 g test sample by difference into thimble contain-
ing small amount of sand. Mix with glass rod. Place thimble and rod
in 50 mL beaker and dry in oven 6 h at 100–102°C or 1.5 h at 125°C.
Proceed as in 920.39C (see 4.5.01), except dry extract to constant
weight at 100°C, cool, and weigh. Petroleum ether, 945.16A (see
27.4.04), may be used instead of anhydrous ether, if desired.
(b) Weigh 3–4 g test sample by difference into small disposable
Al dish, add sand, and mix, spreading mixture on bottom of dish with
glass or Al paddle. Dry with paddle as in (a). Roll edges of dish and
insert with paddle into thimble. Proceed as in 920.39C (see 4.5.01),
except dry extract to constant weight at 100°C, cool, and weigh. Pe-
troleum ether, 945.16A (see 27.4.04), may be used in place of anhy-
drous ether, if desired.
