Materials: One worksheet for each pair of students


Language: Regular and strong adjectives, modifying
adverbs

• Tell students that they are going to work in pairs to match


adjectives with similar meanings. One adjective will be a
regular adjective (e.g. good) and the other will be a strong
adjective with a similar meaning (e.g. awesome).
• Hand out a worksheet to each pair and tell them to
complete the matching exercise (Exercise 1). Elicit the
answers.
• Then tell pairs to work together to think of and write
eight sentences for Exercise 2, using adjectives from
Exercise 1 with suitable modifying adverbs, e.g. really tiny,
completely exhausted.
• When the pairs have finished, invite them to share some of
their sentences with the class. Make sure they have used
suitable adverbs to modify their adjectives.
