PRECAUTIONS

PRECAUTIONS PFP:00011

Precautions for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) “AIR BAG” and “SEAT
BELT PRE-TENSIONER” GKS000F7

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of
this Service Manual.
WARNING:
● To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death
in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be per-
formed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
● Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to per-
sonal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air
Bag Module, see the SRS section.
● Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or
harness connectors.
General Precautions for Service Operations GKS000F8

● Never work with wet hands.

● Xenon headlamp includes high voltage generating part. Be sure
to disconnect battery negative cable (negative terminal) or
power fuse before removing, installing, or touching the xenon
headlamp (including lamp bulb).
● Turn the lighting switch OFF before disconnecting and connect-
ing the connector.
● When turning the xenon headlamp on and while it is illuminated,
never touch the harness, bulb, and socket of the headlamp.
● When checking the headlamp on/off operation, check it on vehi- PKIA0183E
cle and with the power connected to the vehicle-side connector.
● Do not touch the headlamp bulb glass surface with bare hands or allow oil or grease to get on it. Do not
touch the headlamp bulb just after the headlamp is turned off, because it is very hot.
● Install the xenon headlamp bulb socket correctly. If it is installed
improperly, high-voltage leak or corona discharge may occur
that can melt the bulb, connector, and housing. Do not illuminate
the xenon headlamp bulb out of the headlamp housing. Doing
so can cause fire and harm your eyes.
● When the bulb has burned out, wrap it in a thick vinyl bag and
discard. Do not break the bulb.
● Leaving the bulb removed from the headlamp housing for a long
period of time can deteriorate the performance of the lens and
reflector (dirt, clouding). Always prepare a new bulb and have it
on hand when replacing the bulb. EL-3422D

● When adjusting the headlamp aiming, turn the aiming adjust-

ment screw only in the tightening direction. (If it is necessary to loosen the screw, first fully loosen the
screw, and then turn it in the tightening direction.)
● Do not use organic solvent (paint thinner or gasoline) to clean lamps and to remove old sealant.

System Description GKS000TB

● BCM (Body Control Module) controls headlamps low and high operation. H
● IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) operates headlamp bulbs according to
CAN communication signals from BCM.
● Combination meter operates high beam indicator lamp according to CAN communication signals from I
BCM.
LOW BEAM OPERATION
J
When the lighting switch is in 2ND position, BCM detects the HEAD LAMP1 and 2 (ON) by BCM combination
switch reading function. And then, BCM sends low beam request signal (ON) through CAN communication.
When receiving low beam request signal (ON), IPDM E/R turns ON headlamp low relay in IPDM E/R. And
then headlamp bulbs (low) go ON. LT

HIGH BEAM OPERATION

When the lighting switch is in HIGH BEAM position and then also in 2ND position, BCM detects the HEAD L
LAMP1, 2 (ON) and the HI BEAM (ON) by BCM combination switch reading function. Then, BCM sends low
beam request signal (OFF) and high beam request signal (ON) through CAN communication.
When receiving those signals, IPDM E/R turns OFF headlamp low relay and turns ON headlamp high relay in
IPDM E/R. And then, headlamp bulbs (low) go OFF and headlamp bulbs (high) go ON. M
Combination meter receives high beam request signal (ON) through CAN communication, and makes high
beam indicator go ON.
FLASH-TO-PASS OPERATION
When the lighting switch is in PASSING position, BCM detects the PASSING (ON) by BCM combination switch
reading function. And then, BCM sends high beam request signal (ON) through CAN communication.
When receiving high beam request signal (ON), IPDM E/R turns ON headlamp high relay in IPDM E/R. And
then headlamp bulbs (high) go ON.
Combination meter receives high beam request signal (ON) through CAN communication, and makes high
beam indicator lamp go ON.

System Description GKS000WD

● BCM (Body Control Module) controls turn signal lamps (left and right) and hazard warning lamps opera-
tion.
● Combination meter operates turn signal indicator lamps (left and right) according to CAN communication
signals from BCM.
TURN SIGNAL LAMP LEFT OPERATION
When the lighting switch is in TURN LH position, BCM detects the TURN LH (ON) by BCM combination switch
reading function. BCM outputs the turn signal (left) to turn signal lamps (left) intermittently. And then, turn sig-
nal lamps (left) start flashing operation. BCM sends turn indicator signal (left) through CAN communication.
Combination meter receives turn indicator signal (left) through CAN communication, and make turn signal indi-
cator (left) start flashing operation.
TURN SIGNAL LAMP RIGHT OPERATION
When the lighting switch is in TURN RH position, BCM detects the TURN RH (ON) by BCM combination
switch reading function. BCM outputs the turn signal (right) to turn signal lamps (right) intermittently. And then,
turn signal lamps (right) start flashing operation. BCM sends turn indicator signal (right) through CAN commu-
nication.
Combination meter receives turn indicator signal (right) through CAN communication, and make turn signal
indicator (right) start flashing operation.
HAZARD WARNING LAMP WARNING OPERATION
When the hazard switch is in ON position, BCM detects the hazard switch signal ON. BCM outputs the turn
signal (left and right) to turn signal lamps (left and right) intermittently. And then turn signal lamps (left and
right) start flashing operation. BCM sends turn indicator signal (left and right) through CAN communication.
Combination meter receives turn indicator signal (left and right) through CAN communication, and makes turn
signal indicator (left and right) start flashing operation.
INTERLOCKED OPERATION REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
The remote keyless entry system is triggered by input from key fob. When key fob is used to activate remote
keyless entry system, BCM judges that the condition of hazard warning lamps operation meets. Then BCM
outputs the turn signal (left and right) to turn signal lamps (left and right) intermittently. And then turn signal
lamps (left and right) start flashing operation. BCM sends turn indicator signal (left and right) through CAN
communication.
Combination meter receives turn indicator signal (left and right) through the CAN communication makes turn
signal indicator (left and right) start flashing operation.

System Description GKS000X2

● BCM (Body Control Module) controls parking, license plate and tail lamp operation. H
● IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) operates parking, license plate and tail
lamps according to CAN communication signals from BCM.
I
PARKING, LICENCE PLATE AND TAIL LAMP OPERATION
When the lighting switch is in 1ST position, BCM detects the LIGHTING SWITCH 1ST POSITION (ON) by
BCM combination switch reading function. And then, BCM sends position light request signal (ON) through
J
CAN communication.
When receiving position light request signal (ON), IPDM E/R turns ON tail lamp relay in IPDM E/R. And then,
parking, license plate and tail lamps go ON.
Combination meter receives position light request signal (ON) through CAN communication, and makes posi- LT
tion lamp indicator turn ON.
COMBINATION SWITCH READING FUNCTION
Refer to BCS-3, "COMBINATION SWITCH READING FUNCTION" . L

EXTERIOR LAMP BATTERY SAVER CONTROL

When any of the 1ST/2ND position with exterior lamp ON, the ignition switch is turned to OFF. The driver's M
door is opened to get out of the car and then closed, BCM turns OFF exterior lamp with door lock operation of
the remote keyless entry system in order to prevent battery from running by forgetting about turning off the
exterior lamp.
Releasing Function
● BCM turns on exterior lamp again when:
– Driver's door is opened
– Key is inserted in key switch

System Description GKS000XJ

Room lamp (when room lamp switch is in DOOR position) ON/OFF is controlled by timer according to signals H
from key switch, front door switch driver side, front door lock actuator (driver side) (unlock sensor), etc.
room lamp timer control settings can be changed within 5 seconds.*
* Factory setting gradual dimming and brightening time is 1 second. I
INTERIOR ROOM LAMP TIMER OPERATION
BCM performs timer control (30 seconds)* to turn ON/OFF of the room lamp when room lamp switches are in
DOOR position. In addition to it, dimming/brightening control also takes place for maximum 5 seconds*. J
● When BCM detects driver door is unlocked, and the key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder (key
switch OFF), it determines that conditions for interior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the
room lamp ON for 30 seconds. LT
● When BCM detects key is removed from ignition key cylinder (key switch OFF), it determines that condi-
tions for interior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room lamp ON for 30 seconds.
● When BCM detects driver door is closed, and the key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder (key switch L
OFF), it determines that conditions for interior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room
lamp ON for 30 seconds.
BCM does not activate the timer even a door other than the driver door is opened. M
*: Setting can be changed by CONSULT-II. Refer to LT-59, "WORK SUPPORT (INT LAMP)" .
Conditions for Canceling Timer
Timer operation is cancelled in any of the following conditions.
● Driver door is locked.
● Driver door is opened.
● Ignition key switch is ON.
INTERIOR ROOM LAMP BATTERY SAVER FUNCTION
If the room lamp switch is in DOOR position and the room lamp left illuminated due to incompletely closed
door, BCM turns OFF the room lamp in 30 or 60 minutes to prevent run down of the battery. (Timer setting can
be changed by CONSULT-II. Refer to LT-60, "WORK SUPPORT (BATTERY SAVER)" .)
● When the ignition key switch is turned from ON to OFF, the timer is activated.
● When any of the following switch signal condition is changed with the ignition key switch in OFF position,
the timer is activated when the change is occurred.

System Description GKS000XT

● BCM (Body Control Module) controls illumination lamp operation.

● IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) operates illumination lamps according to B
CAN communication signals from BCM.
ILLUMINATION LAMP OPERATION
C
When the lighting switch is in 1ST position, BCM detects the LIGHTING SWITCH 1ST POSITION (ON) by
BCM combination switch reading function. And then, BCM sends position light request signal (ON) through
CAN communication.
When receiving position light request signal (ON), IPDM E/R turns ON tail lamp relay in IPDM E/R. And then, D
illumination lamps go ON.
Combination meter receives position light request signal (ON) through CAN communication, and makes posi-
