Capstone Progress Update #2:

Over the past weekend I was able to interview multiple financial field professionals including the one I
mentioned in my previous update (Shawn P). And another one of them being one of my many cousins
that work in real estate, his name is Pravin. I asked him questions such as what to look for when being a
first-time home buyer and what to look out for as far as interest rates those mortgages come with and
the type of mortgage, such as choosing between a variable and fixed mortgage.

I also interviewed Shaun, a financial advisor at Sunlife Wealth. I asked him what his client base is, who
he works with. Shaun advises clients on the best insurance policies for their needs when it comes to life
insurance, for example, which is an important thing to have no matter your age, young or old. Shaun
works with his clients whether they are thinking about home, career or retirement. Shaun also explained
the importance of Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and how starting young is beneficial
when filing income tax returns each year. RRSP’s are a long-term investment, the younger you start
contributing the more you have for when you are ready to retire. I feel that having the input and
expertise of multiple people in the financial/real estate field will help give my financial booklet variety
and substance. Through conversations with these professionals, I have continued to build my knowledge
in the areas of financial literacy, investments and real estate.
After conducting these interviews, I gathered multiple opinions from hearing what these professionals
had to say and putting it all into one source. Originally, I was lost and confused about what platform I
could use to create and format my booklet. Originally, I was going to use Word to format my booklet.
After I suggested using Word, my teacher told me how the capstone still needs to be appealing and not
just a bunch of words, as Word is hard to format into a creative and look appealing. So, she then
suggested Canva. Canva which is perfect for my capstone and is easier to format my booklet.

My needs are going to be to have a quiet space to work with a computer so that I can work on Canva
and build my financial guide. I will work in class, at school and at home in my bedroom which is where I
have a private and quiet space as well as have all the relevant material that I need to do my work.
Obstacles that I anticipate are if any life or family things come up. I also may need to follow up with
Shawn, Pravin, or Shaun on any points or questions that may have come up since speaking to them last
and there is a possibility that I may not be able to contact them in a timely manner.

Some core skills that took place before completing this reflection are critical thinking when thinking
about my project's design. I also had to problem solve at times when I came to some roadblocks on my
capstone journey. Communication is another core skill I will need to use to complete this project. I also
procrastinated in the beginning of the semester and got a bit of a late start on things but now I feel good
after meeting with my teacher, Ms. Browne, and getting some useful feedback and a sense of direction
to take this project forward to the next level.
