Since the Jeep basically can’t be truly secured I wanted a simple car alarm to discourage someone from entering the vehicle
and rummaging through the interior. My intention was not to stop an experienced thief from stealing the Jeep.
TimC is offline My solution was the A10 SCYTEK which can be had for $30.00. I discarded the included motion sensor and replaced it with an
$18.00 Microwave Sensor. (If you wanted to you can run both, but you need to isolate them with diodes and join them
Join Date: May 2008 together. Given the simple goal I didn’t see a need.) I decided to spring for the $2.00 hood pin to complete the alarm. The
alarm system grand total is $50.00 plus shipping. You will also need some additional automotive grade wire (I grabbed 3 colors
Location: Northern NJ 10ft each), Scotch lock connectors and some butt connectors. Figure on around another $20.00 all if you don’t have these
already. So your final bill should be around $70.00.

My goals were to have the system be easily removable if I sold the Jeep and to have the absolute minimum of drilling
especially in the interior. I also wanted the bare minimum of connections into the OEM wiring. As a result I decided NOT to
utilize the ignition cut-out. I didn’t see the need to tap into such a critical circuit given the Jeeps built security transponder key.
Once again, I’m not trying to stop a pro.
Features:
1. 2 Remotes
2. Parking Lights Flash / Illuminate controlled by alarm
3. Audible Alarm and Chirps on Arm/Disarm
4. Microwave Perimeter Alarm – Chirps when you get within 1-2ft. Alarms when you reach into the vehicle.
5. Alarm activates when the doors, gate or hood are opened.

Note: I do NOT have navigation system so I trimmed the bracket that supports it to put the sensor here. If you do have NAV you will need to
find another spot.
I was also able to tuck the LED for the alarm into the vents here with no cutting. I simply routed the wires in the crack between the vent and
the dash. I did have to remove the radio to route the wires for the LED and the sensor. Both go to the glove box.
(This isn’t my photo. I found it via Google searching JK forum pictures. If the OP has an issue with me hosting this PM me please.)
You will have unclip the fusebox in the engine compartment and tap into the white/green wire here to have the alarm trigger the parking light
circuit. This was one of the more painful parts of the wiring.
I mounted the siren on the driver’s side next to the brake booster. I was able to route the wires under the rubber trim piece at the front of the
engine compartment. One of the holes was already drilled. I had to drill one additional hole to mount the bracket.
I made a do-it-yourself hood pin bracket from L-bracket I already had. I attached this to the siren bracket. I had to bend out one end of it
slightly to clear the fender. I had to drill the bracket out slightly to fit the hood pin.
I used the passenger side foam filled hole that is much discussed here. In comes in on the side the dashboard and allows an easy run into the
glove box. The siren, hood pin and parking light wires all go through here.
(The reason the loom is so thick is I run my aux lighting through here as well.)
As I mentioned above I tapped power both switched and unswitched from the cigarette lighters. I also used the unswitched socket as my
ground source. (This also isn’t my photo. If the OP has an issue with me hosting this PM me please.) This is the unswitched power:
The other side is same, but used for the switched power.
You want to grab the yellow and white striped wire from the bundle at passenger (LHD) footwell. This connects to the positive (+) perimeter
trigger for the alarm.
Here is where I mounted the switch that use to code the alarm:
This is the most complex part of the install. I used wire ties to attach the brain to a support underneath the glovebox. The brain isn’t visible
when you look up from the footwell. I also keep my glovebox locked. I realize this isn’t going tough to break into, but it will slow things down.
Ignore the Scotch connectors in the picture. I tapped into these lines for some other accessories. Also be careful with silver lines in the picture.
I didn’t realize they were the coolant lines to the heater core until I brushed up against them. Ouch! Keep everything tight and well tied so that
you have no interference with the glovebox. When the glovebox is back in no wires are visible. It is also easy to get to the alarm fuse.
This isn’t step by step installation guide. It assumes you are already familiar with automotive wiring and you will have to use the A10 directions
for attaching things to the alarm and setting the options. Hopefully this simply saves you a lot of planning.

Thanks for this write up. I'd like to see a video of how well it works though. Any plans on making one? This is a really cool
idea.

Not for a while, if at all. It's too cold to take the top down. The microwave perimeter works just fine on both sides. It is a bit
TimC is offline weaker on the back and front. Get with a foot of the Jeep and you get a warning chirp. The issue is the actual alarm is slow to
trigger if you reach into the Jeep. But realistically if you are going to ignore the warning chirp you will probably open the door

and trigger the alarm that way.

None of the microwave sensors are perfect even in the very expensive alarms. It's the nature of the device. More elaborate
Posts: 43 installs sometimes use multiple sensors.

This is pretty cool. I got power door locks and alarm but would love to have the "chirping" if someone got close to my jeep.
I've had some loose change stolen when the top was down.
