GIVING TIME FOR JESUS

Luke 10:38-42
At the Home of Martha and Mary
38
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named
Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening
to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came
to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her
to help me!”
41
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few
things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken
away from her.”

LOVING JESUS FRIEND

Mark 2:13-17
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners
13
Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach
them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow
me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15
While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with
him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who
were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why
does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not
come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

SHARING OUR LAMENTATIONS TO JESUS

John 11:17-35
Jesus Comforts the Sisters of Lazarus
17
On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Now
Bethany was less than two miles[a] from Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary
to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went
out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.
21
“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know
that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
23
Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24
Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even
though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27
“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into
the world.”
28
After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher is here,” she
said, “and is asking for you.” 29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Now
Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. 31 When
the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and
went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.
32
When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if
you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was
deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
35
Jesus wept.

JESUS WHO UNDERSTAND

Luke 17:1-4
Sin, Faith, Duty
17 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to
anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a
millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. 3 So watch
yourselves.
“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if
they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you
must forgive them.”

JOY WITH JESUS

Luke 10:17-24
The Seventy Return with Joy
17
Then the [a]seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your
name.”
18
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority
to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any
means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but [b]rather
rejoice because your names are written in heaven.
Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit
21
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so,
Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 All[c] things have been delivered to Me by My Father,
and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the
one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”
23
Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you
see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not
seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”
