1.0) TITTLE: Arc Welding Project

2.0) INTRODUCTION

Arc welding is one of several fusion processes for joining metals. Arc welding is a process
that is used to join metal to metal by using electricity to create enough heat to melt metal,
and the melted metals when cool result in a binding of the metals. Since the joining is an
inter-mixture of metals, the final weld joint potentially has the same strength properties as
the metal of the parts. This is in sharp contrast to non-fusion processes of joining in which
the mechanical and physical properties of the base materials cannot be duplicated at the joint.
In arc welding, the intense heat needed to melt metal is produced by an electric arc with the
help of a welding power supply. The arc is formed between the actual work and an electrode
(stick or wire) that is manually or mechanically guided along the joint. The electrode can
either be a rod with the purpose of simply carrying the current between the tip and the work.
Or, it may be a specially prepared rod or wire that not only conducts the current but also
melts and supplies filler metal to the joint. Most welding in the manufacture of steel
products uses the second type of electrode. The welding region is usually protected by some
type of shielding gas, vapor, or slag.

1) Before any work is carried out in the workshop, permission must be obtained from
The workshop supervisor or lecturer.
2) Always wear safety attire during welding process.
3) Working areas and equipment are to be thoroughly cleaned after the usage.
4) The last person to leave the workshop make sure all equipment is turned off.
5) Do not put positive and negative electrod on a metal table when the machine is on.

6.0) WORKING PROCEDURE

Procedures Diagram

Place the metal plate on the working

table. prepare tools and equipment
before start.

Patent-pending Process
Clean surface of workpice using
wire brush. Before welding, adjust the
electric current to DC current and
scratch the electrode on the crap metal.

Close Butt Joints

Hold the electrode about 90 degree

above the scrap metal. Tilt the electrode
30 degree tonthe left or right depending
on which hand you use. scratch the
front end of the electrode onto the scap
metal until electrode has started burning
and hold it at 3 mm above from the
scrap matel.

If electrode burn nicely , make a tack

weld on both side to prevent the metal
plates from bending during the welding
process occur. Scratch the front end
electrode onto the workpiece to start.
try to avoid the electrode from being in
contact with surface plate. by using
hammer to chipped off the slag and
brush it using wire brush.

Corner Joints
Use magnetic square and x the
two metal to form a corner joints.
make tack weld on both inside the
metal plates to prevent the metal
from not parallel during the welding
process.

When nish the welding process

make sure the work place clean
and turn off the welding machine

7.0) DISCUSSION

This arc welding projects give me a lot of experience. The project material produced give
me some new knowledge insight. One thing I can get my hands on is that I can find out the
safety aspect of how to use arc welding properly. I can also learn how to do arc welding the
right way. Next ,I was able to hone my skills in joining materials to form workpiece . this is
due to the students skills, techniques and focus on operating the tools. Also , I got into the
arc welding course and found the pros and cons of the course

SCORE (CLO1)

8.0) CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we can conclude that there are some problems that happened in arc welding
process
The first problem that happened in arc welding process is the thicknesses of are line on
metal plate. We can overcome it such as we can improve our skill with we can reduce the
movement of speed when doing are welding
Second problem is combination of the metal plate is put too strong. It may cause the work
be crack or don’t have enough quality. To overcome this problem is we need to add
More electrodes at the work
Third problem is the work of arc welding not good enough. It may cause from the wrong
angle and wrong position on plate when doing welding. This problem can solve if we use 30
in angle and at least 3mm between electrode and plate when welding.
After we make some work of welding, we can know the main factor why the work in our
welding is not too good. The main factor is lack of skill from student. So that we nood to
improve ourselves by do the weld properly and use the right method in welding
