INTRODUCTION

Life is beautiful but not always easy. We have problems too, and the challenge lies in facing
them with courage and letting the beauty of life. We all face adverse events and situations in life. We
might be going through a season of hardships in our lives at this time. This could be job loss or business
bankruptcy, sickness, loss of loved one, family problem, and even COVID-19 Pandemic.

1
Now, in this activity I want you to watch the inspirational story of Nick Vujicic’s. A man was
born with no arms and no legs but his faith carried him into a new life. If you’re feeling hopeless, listen
to his story and watch the video using the given link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6HnFuzSJdQ
Nick Vujicic's Story

Answer the following questions in your Journal Notebook.

1. What is the story of Nick Vujicic?

2. What are the personal challenges of Nick Vujicic?
3. What quality best describes Nick’s personality?
4. What is the aim or goal of Nick?
5. What have you learned from his story?
6. How do personal challenges make you a better person?
7. Have you experienced the same faith like Nick’s?

MOTIVATION

Every day we make choices, and with every choice we make there can be things or circumstances
that can hold us back if we let them. Nick always says that he does have the choice to be angry with
God for being in his situation, but he chooses to be grateful and happy despite of his situation. You
always, we always have a choice. Whatever the challenge is, we can have the determination to see
things through as we find our strength in God. Whatever kind of situation we face, problems give us the
chance to learn and grow holistically. With our faith at the center of our lives, we are more flexible to
adapt to challenging situations. We will experience God’s peace and spiritual and personal growth,
as we pass through tough times.
We find it easy to believe that God is good when our wishes are granted or when our prayers are
answered. We even feel that our faith in God is strong and we are so blessed when we are happy and
experienced comfort in life. Moreover, we have overcome all the tests of faith of journey through life,
we can claim that our faith in God is strong, enlightened, and profound.

DELIVERY
.
Discussion: Read and understand the (“Shaping Minds, Inflaming Hearts and Catholic Teachings”) on
pages 156-172) in your book entitled “REVELATION and FAITH”.

The word “FAITH” (as noun) is an English

translation from the Latin word, fides, and fido,
(meaning faith and to trust). The Latin word derived
from the Greek words, pistis pisteuo. The Greek “pi’stis”
means faith, belief, firm persuasion, assurance, firm
conviction, faithfulness. This was primarily used in the
New Testament as a noun-verb hybrid. The verb form
of this “pi’stis is pisteuo”, which means to “believe” or
to trust in and rely upon, commit to the change of,
confide in, have a mental persuasion. The adjective
form, pistos, is almost translated as “faithful”. The pi’stis group words in the New Testament can thus be
interpreted as relating ideas of faithfulness, fidelity, loyalty, commitment, trust, belief, and proof.
In general sense, FAITH is defined as the act whereby a person lays hold of God’s resources
becomes obedient to what He has prescribed and putting aside all self-interest and self -reliance, trust
God completely. Faith is the basic ingredient to begin a relationship with God. Faith is the tangible
essence of what is hoped for and so tangible that the faith itself, is the evidence/ reality of those things
that are not yet visible.

2
Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and
revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself. By faith "man
freely commits his entire self to God. For this reason, the believer seeks to know and do God's will. "The
righteous shall live by faith." Living faith "works through charity." The gift of faith remains in one who has
not sinned against it. But "faith apart from works is dead": when it is deprived of hope and love, faith
does not fully unite the believer to Christ and does not make him a living member of his Body.
The disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently
bear witness to it, and spread it: "All however must be prepared to confess Christ before men and to
follow him along the way of the Cross, amidst the persecutions which the Church never lacks." Service
of and witness to the faith are necessary for salvation: "So everyone who acknowledges me before
men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men,
I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven." (CCC 1814-1816)
There are three essentials dimensions of our faith: FAITH as BELIEVING, FAITH as DOING, and FAITH
as WORSHIPPING.
1. FAITH as BELIEVING-means that we uphold as true and without error the teachings of the
Catholic Church.
2. FAITH as DOING- is a commitment to follow God’s will for us.
3. FAITH as WORSHIPPING- is praying to God with our whole heart. It is loving, trusting, and hoping
in the Lord.

PRACTICE

GREAT JOB! Now, read and understand the (“Shaping Minds, Inflaming Hearts and Catholic
Teachings”) on pages 173-218) in your book entitled “REVELATION and FAITH”.

In real life, every time we face unfortunate events such as setbacks and illnesses, we may think
that God has forsaken us and no longer protects us, and thereby sink into negativity and lose our faith
in God. Yet as long as we pray to God in these situations and understand His will, our mistaken
viewpoints will be turned around.
Through experiencing them, we can realize our impurities in our belief in God, and moreover
understand that these unfortunate events befalling us do not mean that God has abandoned us;

3
instead, it means God is purifying and perfecting us. God is calling us to live a holy life in which our royal
road to holiness is knowing, loving, and serving God.
Therefore, one of the Church’s teachings that highlights the Christian life, vocation, and mission
is the call to holiness. Saints have faith in God and they are called to holiness. Saints are the Blessed
glorified souls in heaven. They are our models of faith. The Saints are REVERED and VENERATED but NOT
worshipped because they are not God. We venerate them because we want to emulate their holiness
of life, heroicity of virtues, and deep love for God. They are already with God and have more “direct
access” to Him. Saints are our guide in building the Kingdom of God here and now.
