EARTQUAKE RISK MAP OF TURKEY-Accelerations in Terms of (g)

COEFFICIENTS IN TURKEY BUILDING EARTHQUAKE REGULATION 2018

Map Coefficients Spectral Acceleration: SS and S1 (Map Spectral Acceleration Coefficients
Obtained as Dimensionless by Dividing by Gravitational Acceleration for 5% Damping Rate.
Design Spectral Acceleration Coefficients:

SDS= Ss x Fs
SD1= S1 x F1
Fs : Local Soil Effect Coefficient in Short Period Region =f(Local Soil Class;Ss)

F1: For 1.0 Second Period, Local Ground Effect Coefficient= f(Local Soil Class;S1)
Local Soil Classes (ZA,ZB,ZC,ZD,ZE,ZF); A special ground behavior analysis will be made for
ZF.

LOCAL SOIL CLASSES

ZA: Solid, hard rocks: Vs> 1500 m/s
ZB: Less weathered, moderately strong rocks: 760<Vs<1500 m/s
ZC: Very tight sand, gravel and hard clay layers or weathered, very cracked
weak rocks: 360<Vs<760 m/s
ZD: Medium-firm sand, gravel or very solid clay layers: 180<Vs<360 m/s
ZE: Loose sand, gravel or soft-solid clay layers or
More than 3m in total that meets the PI>20 and w>40% conditions
Profiles containing a thick layer of soft clay (cu<25 kPa): Vs<180 m/s
ZF: 1)Very thick (Hz> 35m) soft or medium solid clays,
2) High plasticity (PI>50) clays with a total thickness of more than 8 m,
3) Clays with a total thickness of more than 3 m of peat and/or high
organic content,
4) Soils with the risk of collapse and potential collapse under the effect of
earthquakes (liquefiable soils, highly sensitive clays, collapsible weak
cement soils)
