Our Mission
Learning together today – transforming tomorrow.

Catholic Education Week is May 1-5. The theme is “We are many… We are one”.

Changing the rules… changing the world.Jesus constantly changed the rules. He changed the rules when he
said, “Let the one who has never sinned, cast the first stone” (John 8:7). The rules were changed because not one
stone was cast as everyone in the crowd knew they had sinned in one way or another. The woman walked
away having been judged not as a sinner who needed to die by stoning but rather, as a sinner like those
willing to condemn her. Jesus hung out with a rag-tag group of disciples and followers whom society had said
were unworthy. The list is long: The Woman at the Well John 41:1-42, Matthew, a tax collector Matthew
9:9-10, A different tax collector named Zacchaeus Luke 19:1-10 to list a few. They were the least, the lost
and the lonely and they were willing to admit it. Jesus reached out to those the world deemed most
unworthy and beyond reach. He was the example that we should all live by. He reached out to those who
needed a Savior, and they accepted His mercy and love as life changing. In Matt. 9:12-13 Jesus points out
that healthy people do not need doctors, sick people do. He also added that He was not calling the righteous
but the ones who know they are sinners. Before Jesus ever walked on the planet, things like education and
medical care were exclusive for the rich and powerful. Jesus took care of the sick that would have been cast
away and isolated alone to die. He educated the masses and especially let the children come to him. We are
grateful to this day for this spectacular gift of acceptance that Jesus taught us and even more grateful that
we can celebrate Catholic Education every day in our Catholic Schools. Jesus went to great lengths to
correct our faulty human ways of thinking. We teach our children to live the way Jesus would, by loving our
neighbours as ourselves and to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. Mark 12:30-31 We continue to
teach our children not to fear those that are different. We teach our children who will hopefully re-teach
adults to treat everyone the way we would like to be treated. This is no easy task, and as humans, Catholics
and members of society, we can keep striving to accomplish this. Imagine that world, the world that is better
because we step out of selfishness and fear to treat others the way we would like to be treated remembering
that everyone has a story. We are many, we are one is the perfect description of how we all impact others
and indeed change the world.
