Avatar Self Portrait

Show me what you learned about cropping images and uploading them into Seesaw.
Step 1: Take a picture of yourself and take a screen shot removing much of the
background image.
Step 2: Open an avatar creator such as:
https://avatarmaker.com/ or https://www.cartoonify.de/
http://doppelme.com/create/
Step 3: Take a screen shot of your completed avatar.
Step 4: Import both pictures into Seesaw side by side.
Step 5: Add a text box with your first name and the year.

Objectives: Explain what can be learned by looking at are made by others. Explain
what it means to perceive.

Lesson 1--Line

Objectives: Differentiate between structural lines, outline, contour, gesture,


sketching, and calligraphy. Use line personality to communicate. Demonstrate
implied line.

Project 1: Using Lines and Contour Drawing--Students will be using blind contour
drawing and Sighted Contour Drawing.

Project 2: Gesture Drawing--Students will be doing timed gesture drawing.

Lesson 2--Shape and Form

Objectives: Differentiate between shapes and forms. Use organic and geometric
shapes in compositions. Use perspective to create the illusion of depth on a 2D
surface.

Project 1: Exploring Shapes in Non-Objective Design--Students will create 2


compositions. One will have only curved shapes and the other with only angular
shapes.

Project 2: Exploring Abstraction in Still life. Students will draw from a still
life and use only straight lines

Project 3: Using Perspective in Drawing--Students will practice using 1point

Lesson 3--Value

Objectives: Students will create value scales. Students will create drawings with
contrast and a range of values in pencil to create the illusion of depth. Students
will use blending techniques and pencil pressure to create gradients.

Project 1: Pencil Drawing 101--Students will learn rendering skills and techniques.

Project 2: Pencil Perfect--Students will apply rendering skills to a still life


drawing with a spotlight used.

Lesson 4--Color

Objectives: Students will name and differentiate the primary and secondary colors.
Students will mix paint to create the intermediate colors. Students will create a
painting using a limited palate.

Project 1: Color Mixing Exercises--students will create a design and then mix
secondary and intermediate colors to paint the design.
Project 2: Color Schemes--Students will choose a limited palate for a painting
with their choice of subject. The palate choices are monochromatic, warm, cool,
tints, shades, complementary.

Lesson 5--Space

Objectives: Students will use rule of composition to properly fill the picture
plane. Students will combine the use of Shape, Form, Value and Color with the
element of space to create a summary painting.

Project 1: Students will combine the elements of Shape, Form, Value and Color with
the element of space to create a summary painting.

Lesson 6--Texture

Objectives: Students will differentiate between real texture and implied texture.
Students will experiment with different media to achieve desired textures. Students
will continue to utilize the other elements of art in their work.

Project 1: Creating invented textures. Students will create a drawing that


incorporates invented textures on everyday subjects.

Project 2: Collage and Texture. Students will cut out a number of textures form
newspaper and magazines and fit them together to construct a landscape.

Unit 2: The Principles of Design (Exploring Visual Design)

Lesson 7--Balance

Objectives: Students will explore symmetrical balance, approximate symmetry,


asymmetrical balance and radial balance. Students will use radial balance or
symmetrical or asymmetrical balance in a composition.

Project 1: Symmetrical Design Painting. Students will create a design that uses
symmetrical balance and then use watercolor paints to finish the work.

Project 2: Using Asymmetrical Balance: Students will create a drawing using


asymmetrical balance. They must also be able to explain how their work is
asymmetrical.

Lesson 8--Unity

Objectives: Students will explain dominance relative to the principle of unity.


Students will show unity in the repetition of visual elements.

Project 1: Unity with Repetition the Paper Clip Painting. Students will draw
several paper clips on their paper, arranging them in interesting ways and use
watercolor paints to create a blending of color.

Project 2: Putting it all Together. Students will take separate elements from
separate masterworks and create a unified composition of their own in tempera
paints.
Lesson 9--Contrast

Objectives: Students will use contrast to create focal points. Students will be
able to point out areas of contrast in other works. Students will create a work
that provides strong contrasting elements.

Project 1: Same but Different. Students will have to choose two very contrasting
subjects and create a drawing that captures these differences.

Project 2: Color Contrast Non-Objective Art. Students will use color, shape and
contrast to create a non-objective work of art.

Lesson 10--Emphasis

Objectives: Students will follow a self chosen style. Students will emphasize a
specific idea or theme and attempt to communicate it visually.

Project 1: Thematic Style. Students will create a work based on a specific style
and theme. The student will use the style and various stereotypical visual elements
to communicate the theme.

Lesson 11--Pattern

Objectives: Students will demonstrate an understanding of motif. Students will


differentiate between a visual pattern that is natural and one that is manmade.
Students will create a visual pattern that is natural and one that is manmade.

Project 1: Patterns in Nature. Students will create a motif utilizing a pattern


found in nature.

Project 2: Motif and Pop Art. Students will create man-made pattern similar to the
Pop art style.

Lesson 12--Movement and Rhythm

Objectives: The students will use visual Rhythm to show movement. The students will
use compositional movement. The students will explain how movement is utilized to
influence the eye of the viewer in a specific work of art.

Project 1: Flowing Rhythms. With paint the students will explore pattern that move
in flowing rhythms.
