California Floating Success
& MeRA Outlook

25 GW of offshore wind by 2045. To get there, we are prioritizing:
offshore wind
power.
Offtake: Approaching the regulatory and legislative

Ports: Updating infrastructure to support the long-term
growth of a new floating offshore wind market in California.

Permitting: Ensuring efficient coordination between state

and federal agencies.

Maine Research Array (MeRA)
Commericalizing Maine-made floating technology

• Maine Research Array is being developed on

behalf of the State of Maine

• Collaboration with the University of Maine to

commercialize the only domestic floating
• offshore wind foundation

• Limited to 12 turbines or fewer and expected

to be constructed before 2030.

• Evaluate interactions and seek to minimize potential impacts of the floating turbine
array on marine environment and protected wildlife species

• Create a set of real-world tested best practices and standards that can foster more
prudent development of commercial-scale projects in the future Page 8
Demonstrator Update
& Lessons Learned

TetraSpar Demonstrator
Project Summary
Concept: TetraSpar
• Tubular steel structure with a suspended keel
(suspended-counterweight) made of rolled and cast
pre-fabricated components
• Novel pin-joint system to allow quick, simple
assembly

Project: TetraSpar Demonstrator

• Single unit with 3.6MW turbine (SWT-3.6-120), chain
mooring lines and drag anchors
• Deployment at Metcentre site, 10km off the
Norwegian coast in water depths of 200m
• Unit manufactured by Welcon in Give (DK) and
assembled in the Port of Grenaa
• Completed in Q4 2021

Status: TetraSpar has just passed its one year of

operations milestone and is performing well.

DemoSATH
Project Summary
Concept: SATH (Swing Around Twin Hull)
• Concrete twin-hull barge structure, made of
modular, pre-fabricated components
• Single point of mooring, so unit aligns itself to the
current and wave direction

Project: DemoSATH
• Single unit with 2MW turbine (REpower MM82),
hybrid mooring lines and drag anchors
• Deployment at BiMEP site, two miles off the north
coast of Spain in water depths of 85m
• Unit manufactured by Ferrovial in the Port of Bilbao
• Completion scheduled in Q4 2022

Status: DemoSATH is commissioned and moored in

the Port of Bilboa and will be installed at the BIMEP test
center this year.
