GEC – ETHICS
Activity 1: Intro to Philo and Ethics

1. What makes ethics a necessary academic discipline?

Our own decision on how to value our actions in life is referred to as ethics. Our self-
evaluation of what is good or bad is developed in ethics′ class. Perhaps it could be
described as the only subject that helps us become better human beings regardless
of the college path we take. Who we are is determined by our ethics.

2. How would you describe the close connection between philosophy and ethics?

Philosophy examines man's relationship to the world. Ethics considers man to be a

self-conscious being rather than a natural fact. Thus, to discuss the relationship
between man and God, the world, and society, ethics must turn to philosophy.

3. How can theory help us in acting more effectively?

Theory of mind enables people to infer others' intentions as well as think about what's
going on in someone else's head, such as hopes, fears, beliefs, and expectations.
Misunderstandings can exacerbate the complexities of social interactions.

4. Is it possible for a person to be moral but not ethical or ethical but not moral?

Yes, it is possible. Morality is any concern with right and wrong, distinguishing
between them to advance right or oppose wrong. Morality is a subset of ethics. Ethics
is a code of right behavior in voluntary adoption that is shared by people who share
similar interests or goals. A higher standard of behavior is adopted, either for their
own self-concept of what right conduct should be, or as a sales job on public trust.
